Hi All,

I'm off to Isle of Skye for a few days and thought i would use some of the time to take piccies.

I want to experiment with long exposure, and i have seen some of your results using ND filters. I want to get some but finances dictate that i can't afford such luxuries at the moment.

Can anyone suggest suitable alternatives that i could easily get my hands on that might give me the same results?

one alternative i am going to try is using my blacked out motorcycle visor!

thanks

How about some tinting film from your local Halfords/auto store?

Secure it round the lens with an elastic band and bob's your uncle

Nice idea.

then with the same tinting film you could add layer upon layer to get different densities...

Might be better to mount a piece of the film in some card and blu tack the card to the edge of the lens else you will probably get crinkles round the curve of the lens.

One could even cut an aperture in a sheet of plastic of some sort and use clever cutting to provide you with tabs which can then be rubber banded to the lens which would remove the problems with blu tac and get round the crinkles.

Eoghan, why not try looking around a camera shop at the 2nd hand stuff? I've picked up Cokin stuff for pounds.

That siad, most of my filters are ebay jobbies that were under a fiver each, meaning i could get a Colin 'P'-style holder, adaptor and filter for under a tenner. Quality is very good.
