Is there any way to improvise to get something like a fresnel tungsten lamp?

I only need something like 100W/150W, but don't fancy paying Arri prices.

I found some gripper/inspection lamps, but they were 30.00 or 40.00 each just for the lamp....

iv'e been thinking the same thing for a while on how to make one on the cheap so to speak
fresnel lenses can be sourced from quite a few places and all you would need to do is incorporate a method of moving the lens towards and away from the light source within the lamp housing
the other issue is what to use as the light source i was thinking of low voltage halogen with a fan ( to keep the heat down ) but havn't got round to trying anything yet

damien lovegrove imports lupolux LED and HMI fresnel continuous lighting kits but there not cheap

The design of the actual fresnel lens is (should be) specific to the size of the light source, it isn't just a matter of getting any old lens and expecting it to work perfectly.

Fresnels designed to work with filament lamps won't produce the same results if used with flash, or HMI, or LED.

thanks for the info

iv'e seen fresnel lenses on a few things over the years and would imagine the distance between each ring would determine the size of the light source

i wasn't aware that different type of light sources would affect the behavior of the lens
