Been looking at background stands and seems I am looking at around £60 for one off ebay. Is it possible to make one from 2 light stands (that I can get for £24) and then something to put between them to hang the background?

Anyone done this?

yes put s thread up last week about this

How useful.

If you can buy a length of scaffolding from somewhere it'd be a quick and easy way to do it. All you need is some brackets to mount the pole on the stands.

Not sure what you're thinking of using for a backdrop, but a roll of paper will be heavy so check the max load on the stands.

or a curtain pole, with a couple of holes drilled in the end

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...OTHES+RAIL.htmPurchased two light stands from Jessops when selling them off.

i have also had one of these laying around in the out house for a while.

been in need of a background and support.

by uising the legs as the top bar, i have been able to create a stand that extends to just over threee metres in length, storng enough to support the material used and is a light easy to transport.

hope this helps

now i have full access can paste a link for you.

which may be more helpful than sniddy comments!

I use a couple of the adjustable Builders tool props - the type they use to keep plasterboard up whilst installing a ceiling etc

- they have a ratchet system which enables you to set them up one handed - and have floating feet top and bottom which means they can be adjusted to any angle - I simply wrap my background over the top - extend the ratchet to secure it to the ceiling, do the same for the next prop extending the background material snugly and use a couple of small clamps to secure the background to the 2 uprights each side.

I bought mine from Aldi think they were ~£6 each- one of their special tool weeks earlier this year, but you can pick up similar items from most tool stores for about £12-15.

Similar to these on ebay - not a recommendation - purely a link to show a similar device :

Cheers folks, am loathed to pay loads of cash just to see if an idea works or not so some of those are ideal!!

keep an eye out, I got 2 portaflash light stands for less than £20, and an interfit cross bar for about £6.

Calumet do full price cross bars for £20 something? or just use a 2" x 1/2" timber with holes drilled in for the light stands?
