Distortion to Canon EFS55-250 IS lens barrel

Hello,

I've just got my hands on a brand new EFS 55-250 IS lens, and, during the 48 hours I've had it so far, I've managed to take 40 or so practice shots, and am pretty pleased at the results. However... I have noticed, when holding the lens under a certain light, that there's a slight distortion to the rubberised zoom ring, just in front of where it says "55" on the zoom position index. It's as if there's something such as a screw head beneath distorting the rubber slightly; this can also be felt if you run your finger over it. Now, is this something that's not unusual for such a budget lens? Or is it likely to be due to poor build quality of the copy of the lens I have, which would best be solved by me returning the lens for a replacement?

Poor build quality or not,i personally would take it back to where you bought it, and have them look at it .:thumbs:
 
I've just checked mine and it's fine.
As mxfun has said, take it back to where you purchased it.

Just checked mine, and it's not on there either...
 
Well... I sent the lens back to buyacamera.co.uk, and they promptly sent me out a replacement. HOWEVER... I have notice with my new copy that, when it's clicked into place on my 450D's mount, it can by turned by the tiniest fraction of a degree, meaning it isn't locked completely tight onto the mount. It's barely anything, but it's there nonetheless. Is this usual? My other lenses don't budge when locked into place. Does anyone know of any lens mounts that do this, and if it will have any effect on the images the lens produces?

My 55-250 can be turned very slightly when it's on the camera like that as well. It's hardly anything though, and it won't affect the image at all.
 
Thanks Colonel! Gratifying to know I don't have to shell out for return postage to get it sorted again! ;-)
