Dissilusioned, your opinions please...

hi
i recently bought a Canon 100-400L lens, i have also just come back from Bridlington, where i wanted to use it at Sewerby on the RSPB nature reserve there, and around Bempton cliffs.
Imagine if you will, my total horror as i thought from 25' away i should be able to count hairs on the back of a Tits head, but alas NO, i just couldn't believe the bird was this tiny thing in the viewfinder, my heart just sank.
Please tell me i am wrong, please tell me i dont know what i am talking about, please tell me i am spoilt, TELL ME SOMETHING to stop me chucking it out the window.
I suppose the only thing to do is buy a 1x or 2x convertor for it.
Hmmmmm:'(

As has been said small stuff is small no matter what lens!

I'd suggest a day out at the zoo when the weather is bright. You will come back with a bunch of images that will make you feel a lot better about the 100-400.

Whilst looking at a nice lake scene is Canada a guy pointed out a Heron on the opposite bank of the outlet river. So I got the 20D and 100-400... but it was still just a dot!

Took the 100-400 for wildlife but I never did get a picture of a Bear!

not too good when cropped but it was hand held while balancing on the river logs!

hello all
many thanks for all the replies here, i am indeed honoured to have such knowledgeable surrounding as you lot.
i know i will come to terms with the distance problem i have, but after having sivved through some pics, i thought i would share these with you.
The first is as we walked up to beachy head, we saw a boat out at sea, so i took the photo using my 17-85 IS USM just to show more or less what we saw with the eye..

The second is from exactly the same place, but using the 100-400 lens..
