Hi there, I want to do a disk clean up today to release some memory on my PC. My question is - if I select the option 'compress old files', will it damage or reduce the quality of my photographs saved on the hard drive. My best photos are intially RAW files and then converted to TIFFs. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks Neil, I didn't realise how little memory it would free up.

Try Ccleaner, if there's any free space to be gained for hdd space that will find it. But as Neil says, extra storage is cheap.

If you have saved the pics as compressed tiffs it will save - at best - nothing. It could actually lose disk space for those files.

I wouldn't bother.

Hardly worth the effort, buying a bigger disc is your best bet.

Used that program for many years. It does an efficient clean out and it is very safe (makes a reversible backup if you want). Not all these "cleaning" program can be relied upon not to take out data that should be left.
