Discussion / idle chat thread (2022) Week 52 Showcase

It does mean going into town during the day (which I'm still trying to avoid!) My shoehorn idea can be done closer to home...
I thought exactly the same, I'm still thinking. I have a friend called Ally, better not.

I will be undertaking this theme at huge personal risk to myself ... all will be revealed when I post the images ... if I survive ;)

Well thus far I have nothing to post for the current week Alley(way) as it hasn't stopped raining here. As much as I fully intend to post something, I am not dragging myself and gear out in the cold lol.

Might have to run a week behind if the cold and wet weather persists (rumours suggest it is going to get worse as well).

I haven't had my photography class either as tutor has COVID

Tip: Skin is waterproof :)

Skin is but I'm not desperate to go and snap an alleyway in the rain...I'll hold fire till the weather is better lol
I was actually waiting for rain for the shot I have in mind, so I’m going try and venture out tonight (y)

You have more creative flair than I do. I know some of the alleyways around here and I'm not venturing out in the dark, with a camera on, in the rain.....not a chance lol.

I don't have my camera with me at work so everything I do is typically weekend or evening.

I did plan on going out with my camera, there are quite a few walkways which could loosely be described as alleys on my daily dog walks…….however the rain put the dampers on that so just a quick snap with iPhone will have to suffice for now

I really don't understand the 'tec' thing. So movement of the camera results in a blurred photo, not much skill in that. What is the point in posting a blurred photo.

It can get quite arty, and it's also harder than you might think to get something that looks good. I had a friend who was really good at it - sadly no longer with us.
I like some of this 'blurry sh**e' as they call it themselves in this article ha ha!

Exactly right, time to get "arty" (y)

You only have to look around some forums, to see that ...
Well, enough of that :D

I’d never tried the ICM technique before and it did feel a bit daunting at first. I watched a couple of videos, one by a tog called Andy Gray and was inspired to give it a good go.

Despite it being a cold and cloudy day, l spent a really enjoyable couple of hours playing about with camera movement and settings and came up with some results I was quite happy with. The technique also gives a chance to play about in post processing if you like that sort of thing.
Some of the pics were rubbish but that’s part of the game anyway.

I made sure the one I used for the challenge had some recognisable semblance of the landscape in it, though l was quite pleased with some of the more arty looking ones.

All in all, the point of the 52 for me, is to do something different to challenge myself and I’ll certainly have another bash at ICM. I think the ones linked to by @Bebop above are terrific and inspirational though I guess not to everyones taste.

One thing you do have to watch out for when doing any ICM, are the funny looks from folks who think you don’t know how to use that “expensive camera”.

And that is the whole point of the 52, hopefully for everyone.
I wonder if I made every theme and tech easy, how long would it be before the majority got bored and dropped out?

Well lookie see! The clock has spun it's the eve of the theme again
:naughty:

Get those outstanding Alleways shots in folks!

Can't speak for anyone else but for ME, the point is to get me shooting more than I have for a couple of years and to shoot stuff I usually wouldn't.
Not sure how much longer I'll be able to keep using the same compact camera but it's pretty competent so I'll be doing my best!
Strangest thing for me is following a brief.

And yet some people find the snappers choice difficult, as they have no guidance and have to make the call, as to the theme.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way .. ♪♪♪

TIME!

Good theme idea that :naughty:

Snappers choice was easy! By definition, the shot posted is/was their choice...

Too much choice with Snappers Choice, so I found it difficult to decide on a theme/shot. In fact it should be renamed to reflect that imo :)

  • Haha
Reactions: LC2
Exactly :)

What? "Too much choice"?
I think Tim might have trouble getting that all on the sacred scrolls

:D
Just something catchy like takeapicturebutmakeitgoodpressurepressurepressure.

Spot on. It’s all about challenging yourself, even if (like me) you struggle with creativity, or a technique that you find daunting, or don’t like. You only have to do it once in a 52. I doubt I’ll be (intentionally ) doing ICM again, but glad I gave it a go.

On another theme - literally - I'd just like to say there have been some cracking alley photos this week. Really enjoyed seeing what people have posted.

:plusone:

I'm trying not to look at anyone else's shots before shooting mine since I've had at least 2 of my ideas replicated before I shot them! IF there is any overlap between mine and another/others, It's purely coincidental! Still enjoy seeing other people's interpretations of the brief.

Into week 07 ..

I hope you don't find this theme too Heavy

And as a reminder for those that haven't, but still intend to do it..
This week and next are the last chances to get your technique in.
ICM (intentional camera movement)

Yay, a selfie week :giggle:

Well, I missed the time for a second week, but I have clear ideas of what I want to shoot for catch-ups, I just haven't had the time to do them. I have a plan, though...

As the weather looks bad tomorrow, after my heavy jazz lol I might try and pop over to the beach for some heavy waves.

Don't let it weigh too heavy on your mind :ROFLMAO::rolleyes: On my first 52 I was constantly behind. I did manage to finish - but I didn't really enjoy the experience of constantly feeling pressured to get the pics and comment. I've since lowered my standards and life is much easier :D

Now I'm trying to think how to depict something you can't really see.... the kitchen scales may come out.

As above, selfie time. Now, where's that Borat style swimwear... :p

Don't worry too much - it might not happen!!!

Yep selfie week yeaaaaaaah!!! :exit:

Something very odd happened then when I typed m4nk1n1 lolz ^^^^ quick edit needed!
