Discussion / idle chat thread (2022) Week 52 Showcase

Great light here today as well and the same forecast for tomorrow. Unfortunately, the next time I’ll be able to get out with the camera will be Saturday, and guess what the forecast is then…yep…absolutely sh…ocking :(

Welcome to Week 02 and well done everyone that hit the ground running.
Firstly a quick synopsis..
At the start of each new 52 challenge there are always a few hiccups along the way, and this year was no different.

Now these minor issues are starting to be ironed out, hopefully within a couple more weeks or so it should all settle down,
and maybe the handful of non starters, once they get the gist, will also catch up.

It does seem that a few people don’t know the difference between “zoom burst” and this current technique ICM.
Having spoken to the scroll master, as this is the first of the year, he’s not going to be too tough with the definitions, this time.

Moving on to the Week 02 theme.
The Old hands know, that from time to time I post a theme that may have a link to the previous weeks theme, sometimes tenuous sometimes
blatantly obvious, the latter is this weeks theme. Enjoy …

As the sun is still out so off for a shave then out to get my old shot, great theme as well.

Ha I only said last night to my wife that I thought the next theme could be old. I didn’t want to post and jinx it!
Want to take a wild stab at next week's being mediocre?
:D

Same here and same problem.

Ha, wife said I'm not allowed to take photos of her

I did say well if I use the ICM technique, nobody will be able to see the wrinkles

I'll have a go.... Borrowed and Week 4..... Blue. As the song goes. Something new, something old, something borrowed something blue.......:)
I'm not quite sure where gob shot fits in that rhyme

I've just this minute finished to a pest control man, that's the trouble he said with these old houses, facerboards rot and grey squirrles get into the attic, more expense I thought, where will it all end.

We had squirrels in the loft many years ago, in another house we lived in. The people at the back of our garden cut down a load of sycamores in which the squirrels were living and so they moved to our loft whereupon they would run around first thing in the morning making a hell of a racket. Don't judge me for my naivete (I was younger then) but I tried to frighten them away with heavy metal music -- what was I thinking?! I put speakers up in the loft and when I heard them moving around first thing I would reach down, turn on the stereo and blast them with ten minutes of Iron Maiden's Back in the Village; oddly, this had no effect on the loft squirrel population and a pest controller was duly employed. Since those heady days of Squirrel Metal I have always kept a beady eye on the local squirrel population -- and purchased a couple of air rifles!

It's supposed to rhyme! :)

Something new, some old, something borrowed, something, er, cold?...that really doesn't work.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue....there, that fixed it, I wonder if it'll catch on.

Ah yes Squirrels a bundle of fun.
When I was doing domestics before moving to commercial pest control,
my record was 30 squirrels out of one old house in less than 4 weeks (y)
Is there a tree branch or outside structure within 8 feet of your house? that's easy doable for them.
Failing that they are most likely climbing up the walls.

No matter what photo I take this week, gotta be a B&W surely……. Possibly a self portrait in B&W ;). Old and monochrome just go together, although I’m partial to a B&W anyhoo as I’m sure as you will see over the next 51 weeks

As Pink Floyd said, "Any colour you like" :)

Tree, I knew the single Squirrel would double up and then trouble. Anyway a builder is coming tomorrow to fix the gaps. The PC man was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen it. He's put peanut butter and blue tracer power in the attic to see which way the creature is coming in. See what happens.

They will also push under tiles.

The pestie guy needs to get a trap down and stop messing about with tracking dust....
Either live catch or fen MKVI.

Live catch isn't really live catch as it is illegal to release the grey squirrel once caught, which means.....

They only say to people they will take the live-caught squirrel away and release it to spare their feelings, but that isn't what happens, if you know what I mean. Better they get caught in the pest controllers lethal traps, it's quick, it's painless and it's a clean kill.

Our PC used a trap that was like a box with a grid holding nuts at the far end of the box, an entrance at the near end with a few peanuts scattered on the floor of the trap. Squirrel walks in, touches the back mesh and a sodding great spring-driven bar comes down across it's back killing it instantly. There are no half-measures, no non-fatal injuries, no way the animal can get just a part of it's body trapped, the squirrel either leaves intact or it doesn't leave at all. It's all you can do apart from let them loose in your loft until your house is ruined.

It means you catch it live. And then you follow the law regarding live caught non indigenous vermin, or face a £5000 fine or a six month jail term.
I'd only been doing it, hands on for 30 years before I retired, I was also the training officer and assessment manager for a few companies.
So yeah I have a rough idea what's what ;)

Kania traps, actually, I knew the guy that was the first to import and use them to great success.

Sorry, didn't mean to teach your grandmother to suck eggs. Didn't know you did that.

Looked it up, yes, Kania trap, that's what it was. PC said he had to be careful setting it or he'd break his own fingers, having seen the end result on the squirrel I can see why.

I was thinking he is moving too slow, now he wants his builder in to repair before he starts, I'm going to ring the council this morning., thanks for the advice.
