disciplinary hearing advice/ thoughts

Does anyone else here hate the term Human Resource?

It turns your employees into a commodity. I much preferred it in Ye Olden Dayes™ when it was Personnel.

Steve.

I agree...the term HR is 'orrible.
An employee's time and skills are a resource and a commodity though....

Baaaaaaaack on topic...

This is a timely reminder of a number of things;

1. Be over-cautious with security. No-one ever got fired for being too cautious. (Actually, someone probably did. HR suck.)
2. Don't read too much into over-officious legalese at the foot of HR letters. My experience of HR people is that they can't think outside a very tightly defined box, so cling to template letters like a toddler clings to its favourite toy.
3. Always wait to see how the land lies before kicking off. Life doesn't have to be a series of endless battles (even if they can be fun when you're winning).
4. Eat more Jaffa cakes. This wasn't specifically highlighted by the issue at hand, but is more of a general rule.

That

although to be fair those trackers arent cheap so throwing one away and then failing to report it could be an occasion for a bollocking (as could not reporting the loss of formal id which could be used fraudulently or as a breach of security) - for it to go to disciplinary though does seem like overkill , unless of course it wasnt her first such cock up. If she'd been repeatedly given informal talking to's before about similar issues, then a formal warning would be the next logical step

on the HR thing , my employer has now rebranded them as PRSC (people resources service centre)

well the results are in. firstly it turns out the bloody thing wasnt even activated, despite witnesses to contrary as they were all activated when handed out in the office ( she and 3 other members were guinea pigs for this device). so clearly it was faulty as the suppliers couldnt track it
the allegation is down to the fact that it wasnt reported straight away ( as mentioned above she "lost" it friday evening and after searching office monday for it reported it tuesday morning.
Seems all rather petty tbh and the upshot is an official verbal warning which is in her notes for 6 months. thankfully it wasnt me otherwise i think i would have told them where they can shove there verbal warning.
totally OTT at most it should have been an unofficial off the record word in here ear.

Now that its over, take legal advice and appeal ;)

It sounds like a typical NHS kangaroo court.

Dont join a union most of them are useless.

bad advice - by deans account she's guilty as charged, so all apealling will do is p*** off the management (and possibly get the penalty increased)

thing to do now is learn from it (ie know where your ID is at all times - report it imediately if it goes missing) and move on

pokes head back in door.
yes was first offence in 4 years working there
tracker was supplied free and damaged faulty ones also supplied free replacement. monthly subs is £10 for the tracker.. even though turns out when tracker company was contacted they couldnt even trace it saying it wasnt activated even though they were all activated in the office at time there were handed out ( what goods a tracker if they cant even track it ffs )
her line manager who also supposed to support her has been a bitch from day one, she has 3 managers above her in her dept, 2 line managers and the senior area manager. the line manager that is supposed to support her constantly put a block on her promotions and refused to even discuss it stating she didnt know her well enough to put an opnion forward ( this after 2 years of being there)
the other line manager and area manager all backed her but wernt called into the meeting ( funny that ).
item was with her firday. when she got home to bring it in for charging over weekend wasnt in car so she assumed it was in the office and checked monday for it before reporting it. offices are closed all weekend so think it was a reasonable time span all things considered.

heads back out the door closing it on the way .. passes admin on way out and asks if they can "lock" the door

I suspect the issue is the formal Id rather than the tracker - having formal ID 'in the wind' is bound to make managers nervous.

according to your OP she noticed it missing on friday but didnt report it until tuesday - I'd suspect they expected that she a) wouldnt lose it in the first place , and b) that she'd report it missing imediately she noticed it - she probably could have got away with first thing monday but leaving it til tuesday was daft.

Ive just checked and the tracker badges we were looking at before we decided they cost too much, cost £120 each - the supplier might provide them free (and replace them free in case of fault - but that doesnt mean theres not a cost if they are lost .. My work smart phone was 'free' on contract but that doesnt mean they'll give me a new one if I accidently throw it away

quick search and check, the one she had £22.99 if you wish t get a solo one ( plus the £10 a month monitoring fee )

Verbal warning is nothing. It drops off after six months. I wouldn't worry about it.

One of my previous employers automatically gave 0% pay rise if you had any active warnings, regardless of type. It wasn't nothing.

A lot of folks haven't had a pay rise in years regardless of discipline status.
A verbal with a 6 month limit, for tossing away company property, really is nothing to get your knickers in a knot about.

Steve.

I recall it being much disliked. Folk who worked in it became referred to as Human Remains.

Yes, employee sells their time to the company on the basis that company needs those skills for that time they buy from the employee.

Time and skills are a commodity and that is what work is about. A company buying the time and skills of a person for an agreed amount of time and skills as described in the CV. The interview is the employees pitch to get that company to buy their time.

Its how I see work, selling time and buying time/skills. Thats all there is.

The company I work for hands them out like toilet rolls

Investigations
Disciplinary
write warnings, every day someone is in the chair

No one has been sacked they are just frighteners

Cant say who it is as they even search social media , however they Just had a BIG fine for tax diddling , Im not saying any more :runaway:

remember that HR is duty bound to have your wife's best interests placed first.
Funniest thing I have read in ages. Well it is not really, you are correct, they should have the employees best interests in prime position. Fact of the matter is that most HR depts are full of snivelling, conniving, untrustworthy and odious scumbags of the worse possible kind.

Are you two desks down from me?

same here - we have performance related pay and a warning is automatically a poor on your apraisal and a 0% increase. They are also the first step on the road to dismissal if you don't get your act together. They certainly arent nothing

I think HR reflects the function accurately. Not everyone will be personnel these days ;) to me it does what it says on the tin. Cant get too excited about what it is called.

Indeed [emoji12]

My phone app was only showing one page with no replies after Fracster's. Oh well!

Appeal on the grounds that they won't have followed correct procedure, they never do, and procedure is there not just for the company, it is there for the employee.

As for the tracker badges, 2 of our staff pushed the emergency button, they got a call back 6 hours later. Glad I don't have dealings with the NHS anymore, so happy to say they are s***.

I'd be pretty grumpy that they gave her a tracking device which did not track. Therefore giving her a false sense of security, putting her at a greater risk than if the tracking system had been working. Maybe get legal advice?

Without the Jobsworth Job Creation scheme too many people would be unemployed. HR is a one of those jobsworth Job Creation schemes.....

Of course HR is NOT as they like to tell you for the benefit of the employed person...LOL

Glad it went ok. But £10 per month and it needs activating.

I pay £7 each per month to track my vans and they report every minute.
In fact one hit a puddle on the way home last night aquaplaned into a hedge and ripped the bumper off. Will he get a bollocking..No, sh1t happens
