Hi,

I arrived back from Turkey last night, and this morning, I attempted to download the 500 odd captures that I made over the last week. NOTHING!!

The card could not be read:eek:

I tried downloading via a card reader, and the camera and USB, but nothing happened. When I interrogated the card (drive E), the computer told me that the card was not valid/formatted.

Somehow the card had become corrupt. My best guess is that it was damaged by the airport Xray screening, though to be honest, I've never heard of this before.

I searched the internet, and came across a program called simply 'card recovery' http://www.cardrecovery.com/?rid=google&kid=cr0102

I downloaded the software, and asked it to recover the images from the card, thinking cynically, that it wouldn't work. It DID:D

It recovered everything on the card, and only 6 images were corrupted - they were there, but were a mosaic of the image broken down into many pieces.

The programme was only $29US, and under the circumstances, it was money well spent.

SO now I have my captures safely on my computer, and an excellent new program.

If anybody has any 'corrupt' cards, of any kind, I invite you to send them to me, and I'll try to recover the images, and post them back to you on a CD - no charge:D

I'll post some of the pics over the next couple of days.

Glad you got your photo's back.

Recovery software is fantastic, I have the sandisk software that comes with the disc's and that recovered a card full of photos last year for me.
The card then went in the bin, not willing to chance it again.

Phew! Glad to hear all is well, Doug..........heart-stopping situation there!

However.......we all know that those 6 images which are still corrupt and cannot be viewed properly are images of....

Hells bells Doug, That was a close call wasnt it...

Very pleased you got your images back, I would have been gutted but these recovery programs do seem to work.

I lost 200Gb worth of data not so long ago on a hard drive and recovered every single item although they had all been re-named.:)

As per usual thanks for your offer on a free service from yourself on recovery of any cards that may have been corrupt Doug.

I suspect there might be someone who reads this thread may take you up on your offer..

They were LTTs:love:

How did you guess Janice??:D

In actual fact, I got very few pictures of birds. In over a week, the only birds I saw were sparrows, cushies, and a bird which I'm oretty sure is a magpie, but with slightly different plumage. Wingshape and bodyshape otherwis identical to a maggie. I'll post pics later.

Glad you managed to get your photos back and thanks for offering your kind services

Luckily i have brought some sandisk extreme cards andthey come with a free recovery program which i have not required to use yet (touchwood)

Good to hear Doug.

I use PC inspector when this type o thing happens, but not had to use it
since purchasing my current brand of cards.

Close call Doug!
Glad it came right in the end

Good to hear you got your images back:thumbs: . I always get jittery when I have stuff on cards. If I have done a days shoot I do not feel comfortable until I have those shot backed up. I always take a laptop with me wherever I go and the first opportunity I have I download them and stick on a rewritable disc. I think with laptop prices so good right now its a sound investment. I was doing a job in India a few years back and had to make an internal flight from Mumbai to Delhi, we had to go through a series of security checks:bat: and at every checkpoint all my gear was dumped out onto a table:shake: and as much as I complained about the rough handeling it just fell on deaf ears:bonk: . They also made me take out all of my batteries from the cameras and flashes. By the time I got to Delhi 2 cards were fried:help: , luck would have it I had back them up before hand. ....Ian

Great news that you managed to get the photos back.
I had the same thing happen to me a few years back when i accidentaly on purpose formatted the card :bonk:

I too invested in software to get the shots back, thankfully i have not had to use the software again. It's handy to have though.

Close call, $29 well spent. Glad it worked :)

Just a heads-up

Sandisk Extreme III cards come with data recovery software - and it works VERY well.
