Disaster + Stupidity

it doesnt look like the lady has been online since the 7th.

7th of what? I sent the lens on 13th August, just acknowledgement of receipt would have been nice.

well thats true enough.

On the 17/08/08 she posted:

"Now am, again, proud owner once more of a Canon 40D with the 17-85mm lens"

And on the 06/09/08

"cannot seem to get a good shot without a tripod (could have had one if she replied to me) using my 80-400 Tokina"

It would seem she has a couple of descent lenses. The Tokina £499 & the 17 - 85.

Maybe she could send your 18 - 55mm back to you so it could be sold/given to someone who needs it.

Her boyfriend must be very generous to buy her the 40D & lens. And someone else to sub a 80 - 400 Tokina.

i'm probably going to cop a warning or a ban for this, but I really think that this needs saying.

The internet gives people a certain amount of protection. Anyone can write anything at all, make claims or describe events. A story can be constructed and delivered to other users. For the users this is all taken at face value, the trickster playing at peoples sense of fairness and right and wrong

It does appear very much like some of the members here have been conned by this person. .

Blaming her rank stupidity on mental illness pulls on the good nature of other people, those people make an effort to help the person they perceive to be having a hard time, and get NOTHING in return, not even the good manners to say thank you to those taken in.

Members will be thinking carefully if another hormonal, dazed and confused woman has a tantrum in the street and leaves vastly expensive equipment laying around for the light-fingered fraternaty to have a free one at her expense.

I really hope that if the lady in question decides to have a family in the future, she doesnt clear off and leave the pram if someone pushes the wrong button again.

you dont get a ban for speaking your mind, but i think maybe less of the personal insults. we dont know the OP's personal history or state of mind, so its not really fair to accuse her of conning people, she could be on holiday, or simply embarrased by the thread. Keep it civil please.

I have been in a relationship with someone who was bipolar. This is why I had some sympathy. This sort of behavior is not abnormal for this condition. ALL reason goes out of the window. However, this condition does not prevent people feeling remorse once they have regained their composure. I think a thankyou to everyone who VERY kindly blindly offered help. She would appear to have a bag full of expensive kit again and I think in the absence of a thank you has rubbed people up the wrong way. It is a real shame because I think if someone loses their kit through no fault of their own again people will be reluctant to help. I really was taken back by the generosity shown on here. Well done everyone, don't let this experience put you off helping someone else in the future, It could be you (or me :) )

Very disappointed to be honest!

Sent the lens as stated (by recorded delivery), but no thanks or even acknowledgment of receipt!

Hope i'm not being out of order here in resurrecting this, but i just came across this thread and read it right through with interest, and i was just curious if it ever came to a conclusion, IE did the people like yourself who offered this woman help ever get any thanks or feedback

Strange! as this is the second time this week that the question has been asked.

I sent the lens on the 11th August by Recorded Delivery. I have never had any contact from Graelwyn in any shape or form since that date.

No acknowledgement of receipt, no thanks!

She did post on the forums a few times after the lens was delivered but made no mention of it.

Water under the bridge now, and although it knocked my perception of human nature at the time I would if in a similar position do the same again I think. It is better to give than receive and all that!

I would have probably been more aggrieved if the lens hadn't really been surplus to requirements and if I had had to make a bit of a sacrafice to have afforded to give it away.

This doesn't sound too good at all. A shame really.

Yes this is why i asked the question in the first place, as i was sure she had been online talking about new equipment she had purchased, your quite right to feel peed off as i would too, i know a little about depression and bipolar, and i know it's no excuse for ignorance to people, particularly those who have helped you out, i guess it takes all sorts as they say, or perhaps she would like to make a comment now and prove me wrong

I had heared that she was selling all her kit. Was advertised on here I believe, however the thread was deleted. Hope she wasn't selling the kit people had so kindly given her.

I seem to recall that it was left open for the lady to speak direct to admin about it, or to post on here etc. if she wanted to, to provide an explanation about what happened to the donated item(s) as her photography kit was up for sale on this site. Certainly by members continuously posting, it wasn't helping the situation.

We were all unhappy at the situation and I think it was concluded that it should be put down to experience and give the lady time to reflect and hopefully we'll hear from her in due course :)

The thread was then deleted...
