Her indoors has just bought a new doorbell ,it's got 58 different tunes built in most of them sound like Chinese mandarin versions of tunes I might remember from the 1930's ,think I,ve heard them all three times now ,flipping heads going round in circles ,even worse there's two separate boxes that plug into the mains .it looks like they can be set to play different tunes when the bell is pushed grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

On a lot of these new bells the "sound" is controlled by the bell push, this means you can adjust your friends bell from outside the house....... ;)

I've had a couple of jobs that required door knocking/bell ringing .... I didn't hang about if the tune was too long.

Maybe they were right and the world has ended and know one has got round to telling us.

I had one of those once, eventually it kept defaulting to Auld lang syne.

The most pleasant noise it made was when I lobbed it down the garden and it shattered into a dozen pieces ... bliss :)

I'll buy you a new one for xmas (y)

This one now installed thankfully with just the doorbell sound has two receiver boxes that plug into the mains in two different rooms and not only ring but flash blue lights as well ,don't even know why we got it cause as soon as the front gate opens the dog goes off his trolley

No doorbell or knocker on my front door..... you have to get through the locked gate which has an intercom which sou8nds on the gate unit but not in the house. My request to change the house name to FOAD Hall is pending at the local LA.

My motorhome does not have a doorbell......

My last house had a 'Victorian' lookalike bell which back in the day would have had pull cords and pulleys..... the bell went for recycling.
OP I am 9 years younger than you... you don't need those electronic sounds in your head. Put the wife in a home and wire the new 50+ sound unit to a permanent supply so it operates 24/7....... in her room

Good old fashioned bbbbrrrrriiiiiinnnnnggggg here. Battery operated. Been here over 25 years and changed the battery once. Want an old fashioned ding (on press) dong (on release) battery bell for Mrs Nod's studio just in case anyone comes in while there's a class going on (more discrete than a ringer!) If/when I find it, it'll be wired to a magnetic switch via a silence toggle for when the door's wedged open or while students come and go at the start and end of classes (to save the battery.)

The previous house owners used a plug-in wireless doorbell. You can quite clearly hear when the bell is ringing. The problem is getting it to ring in the first place - most people don't push the doorbell hard enough to activate the bell! I might look at replacing it with either a button that lights up to show it's been activated, or switch to an old fashioned wired doorbell.
