The mother of the children I am about to do my first portrait session with, has just emailed me to say that the little girl has just lost her two front teeth!
She wants to know whether to go ahead or wait till they've grown back.

It's entirely her choice of course (but I personally always think it's a rather special and charming phase of their lives).
If I sound like Im encourageing her to have them done, it might come over that Im after her money!!! specially if I say "you can always have more done when theyve grown back"!

Perhaps if I suggest they wait a week or two till they are used to seeing her without them and then decide if theyd like them done?

I look back at school photos of my boys with front teeth missing and I love them!

What do you think?

I think I'd tell her exactly what you just said! No pressure her decision but you look back fondly at the missing teeth with your children. Us mother's do listen to eachother! Her daughter will never (hopefully) have 2 missing front teeth again. It is a special time.

It's obviously the mothers choice but, let me just throw a few one line comments into the pot:

Isn't there a difference between a production line school photo and the 'studies' you will photograph.

A smile doesn't have to be full of teeth.

Could be quite a few months before the pegs are back.

There's always Photo Shop

Thank you both. Ive emailed her back and said the same.
Ive given her my thoughts and now its down to her.

Yes, Wetsparks,,, i could copy her brother's teeth and paste them into her smile!! ;) :D

This situation reminds me of the website/philosophy of one of my friends. Go check her out at cheryljacobsportraits.com
click into her website, then to Gallery 2--it seems like it is loading, but just click through. Priceless shots.

Those are lovely, Deena. Ive certainly made my mind up....Id LOVE to do them. She is a very pretty little girl anyway...and its the eyes that make the face light up.

I'll let you know how it goes!
