Hi

I have around 1000 35mm slides I would like to digitise. I would like to end up with good digital copies of my slides and wondering what is my best option. I would be happy to buy a scanner but have no idea which one there seem to be so many out there and so much conflicting advice. I gues I would not wnat to spend more than £100. I did also consdier sending them away but hear to many horror stories of the results folk have had form sending them away. Also sending 100 odd slides in the post would be a bit daunting. I guess I am looking for soemthing that would not take em forever, though there is no rush. Give me good quality for viewing and making into photo books and poss prints. I would like to be able to post process them on my lap top with Photoshop elements and save them into files and folders. It's my first day on here so it's all a bit new.:)

I've gone through this very excercise Tim and can tell you that £100 just isn't going cut it. I tried a DSLR mounted copier, macro lens, flatbed attachment and finally splashed out on a dedicated slide/negative scanner at close to 350 Euros / £300.

You're asking a lot really. For £100 you could get yourself a nice secondhand plustek scanner and do it yourself, it would be good quality and be post processable but it will be a very, very slow process. If you can up your budget, then I'd highly recommend AG photographic, They scanned my Provia 400 and I've struggled to match their quality let alone beat it at home.

Ummm looked at the fuji stuff and even if I went for the 18mb resolution it would cost in me in excess of £500 for 1000 sldies and that is out of the question unfortunately, but thanks for the info.

I made a slide dupe using a 60mm efs lens and a chopped up and re-assembled old Jessops slide dupe holder. Very good results and a really quick method of scanning about 1500 slides.
