i was after a few things on ebay and saw the shop digitalrev, i have heard of them but never dealt with them.

what are they like to deal with? also do they incur import tax because they are based in hong kong. i have bought a few things from HK before but i dont know about this product (sony 50mm f1.8 lens)
 
They are very good to deal with, quick delivery and very responsive. Watch the auctions they do, some items are listed as VAT free some are not. Each auction will state clearly whether you are responsible for the VAT or not.

I bought a 50-500 from them last year, paid duty on delivery and claimed it back, it was refunded within 24 hours.
 
I will add a positive purchase from them, again had VAT refunded within 24 hours but do check if the listing has VAT and tax included or you could be stung on delivery
 
I've spent in excess of 8k with them over the past few years, no issues at all here. Their no vat auctions refund the vat amounts very quickly when you send them a scan of the invoice.

It looks like a standard listing as it states:

Import Tax/Duty/Clearance Fee

The item will be shipped to you from our Hong Kong office. The item may be subjected to customs import tax/fee when it enters your country. By buying internationally, you are considered an importer. Therefore it is your responsibility in case there is some import tax/fee to pay.
 
Thanks. I don't think it's particularly clear though as when you click on "More information", it gives you the three options!
 
The No VAT ones are clearly stated in the description

If you bought one from a No VAT listing and had to pay VAT you can claim it back.

However, the 10-22mm lens in your link is a standard listing, so if you had to pay VAT you could not claim it back.
 
I think price of items wise it depends what you buy because I bought a Sigma 18-200 off there a couple of years ago that was £90 cheaper than anywhere else (inc. import duty + tax, etc). They give you lots of free goodies including lens cloths and carry pouches but the postage is slooooooooooow. Customer service is spot on as well, they're happy to answer whatever questions you may have but like has been said: watch out for that import duty & postage!
 
positive here too, offered a refund on any tax incurred, payed up immediately, cant argue with that
 
bought a Kenko 2x converter from them las year, £20 cheaper than I could find in the UK,no duty paid and delivered in 4 days,I can't fault them.

Thanks for clearing that up. I had wondered whether the other options would be stated as such. Funnily enough, I was looking for a pricematch with Onestop-Digital and had an e-mail from them this morning saying that the DigitalRev price did not include tax and import charges.

I've also purchased from digital rev without any problems.
However, I would also check one stop digital for prices as they are cheaper for lenses.

Compared HK to the UK, a saving of £40 can be made on a Tamron f/2.8 17-55mm lens.
If you want to blame something then you have to look at the internet.
You can also blame our government if you like because our enconomy is fubared, the pound is weak against the yen and our tax levels don't help either.
I'd much prefer to support out retail industry but when we can save £40 and put that money to the rising cost of living can you blame us?

That's not true, the margins on kit are not major, the days of 25% profit are long gone.

Sure, I'll pay the additional 40 quid out of my hard earned wages for a lens and you pay the additional 40 quid to the rising cost of living...Agreed?

Thanks hashcake, well said, I hope these people get a twinge (out of focus) moment everytime they take a shot. Support UK business. Not to mention the other lot attacking the moon.

Clearly you are one of the higher income earners as £40 means nothing to you.
So people who earn £10,000 - £15,000 who have monthly household bills just like everyone else, don't have much in the way of disposable income, have no right to save money because they want to have an expensive hobby?
I think you'd find a lot more people would support UK businesses if the goods were more competitively priced.
If you are going to make a comment, please at least make it debatable rather than sounding arrogant..
 
Don't know why a business in the UK is any more or less deserving of my business than one anywhere else to be honest!
 
I purchased my nikon 300mm af-s f4 about 2 1/2 yrs ago from dig. rev and apart from the fact that I saved almost £300 on the lens which was the only way at that time I could justify buying it being a single income familly of 4, the buying experience was spot on they even refunded me my import duty almost instantly ande delivery was within 3 days, which I thought was pretty amazing.
I must say that if the price difference was within my grasp I would always choose uk suppliers to give the piece of mind you can get with that.

I bought a D200, D40x kit, 18-200, 50, 105, sb600 and sb800 off them just over 2 years ago. At that time they were very competitive (50mm was £45!) but due to currency fluctuations they no longer are. The D200 and 105 had this no import duty guarantee. I paid the £2800 by bank transfer and received a further 2% off. When the large box arrived after only 5 days I had a £68 bill to pay. This included the couriers fee. Digitial Rev added the cost of the two items and calculated the percentage they were of the total and refunded me in 2 days. Very happy with their service but wouldn't use them again due to them no longer being competitive. If things change I would certain consider it.
