Digital Rev

Quite. The Pro-1 Digital is a true high quality (not just words) multi-coated filter with a slim profile. I don't know what that other toot is they sent, but it is way down the range. ND8 filters may only come in a couple of variants from Hoya, but in UV filters, for example, there is the blue series, the green series, HMC, Super HMC, Pro-1D, Pro-1 and HD variants in (I believe) ascending order of quality. Whatever they sent me it is certainly not what I was expecting. I don't think they have an ND8 above the Pro-1D version or I would have bought that. I bought the best I could reasonably expect. I did not want some low end junk.

Oh sorry, my mistake then.
I thought that ND8 was the model, and the other wording on the front was just advertising.
Another saga to your story. :-(

I had trouble with Digital Rev over Xmas, but I put it down to the snow. Maybe it wasn't the snows fault after all!

ND8 is what it does (neutral density 8X reduction factor), but that does not reflect the actual quality of the filter. Imagine a Hoya ND8 is like a Ford Fiesta, but within that range you can have Studio, Style, Zetec, Titanium etc.. You pay your money for different grades and a different experience as a result. They all do the same things, but some do it better than others. Hoya also offer multiple grades of product within any given niche. I paid for a top end product and was sent what I imagine to be a low end version. Quite where it sits in the range I do not know, but it looks pretty near the bottom to me.

my order finally turned up this week .. IMO was awful service

My story has finally reached its conclusion, so it's time for an update. Having originally ordered my filter on 4th Feb I finally received the product I wanted on 18th March. In the end they shipped a substitute product, which I believe to be of superior quality, or certainly not worse. They also threw in a cleaning kit and a camera bag. I'm not sure why. I didn't ask for those things or any other form of compensation for the trouble I've suffered. On top of that they also had to refund the return shipping fees of £9.55 for me to return the original (wrong) item to Hong Kong with insured post. The replacement filter was expressed by courier (thank heaven) instead of through the dreadful Hong Kong Post.

All in all I imagine Digital Rev have made precious little profit from this sorry tale, probably a loss. It would probably have been cheaper for them, and better for me, if they had told me to hang on to the original cheap and nasty filter (or just to throw it away) and simply sent me the correct product as an immediate replacement. I'm sure the cost to them would have been less than the £9.55 it cost them to have me return it. It would also have reduced the delay by over a week in getting the replacement sent out.

It's a very funny way to do business.

At the end of the day I guess they've done what they can to make things right, so I can extend them a lukewarm thank you for that, but really it is not the experience I would have expected or wanted. Oh, and I'm not sure whether this had any bearing on the outcome, but I also raised a PayPal dispute for "item significantly not as described", which might have influenced their efforts to sort things out. The dispute is now closed. :)

Well my little story has just got a whole worse. At long last my package has turned up and it's the wrong product. Now I've got to go to the trouble of returning it to Hong Kong and awaiting a replacement. What an absolute farce!

I ordered a Hoya Pro-1D 77mm ND8 filter and they sent me this....

Yep, ive just got the exact same thing. So i expect ill be having to fork out (for now) to return it.
Ill not use them again. This goes beyond a mistake. This looks more like intentional fraud as they will be aware of the fact that they have sent me something thats worth a lot less than the one i ordered.

Wish i had seen this thread before ordering mine.
