Use Panamoz. I have on a number of occasions with no issues at all.
 
As previously pointed out, the vast majority (if not all) of these suppliers are not UK based, even the ones with .co.uk web addresses & don't have their own UK warehouses. They use holding facilities & `middlemen` & rely on your purchase not being stopped to avoid VAT etc. hence being unable to supply a VAT receipt. Some also mis-declare the value of goods.

YOU as the purchaser are officially the importer & so responsible for any duty etc.

Most manufacturers won't entertain `grey` imports for warranty claims (+ the manufacturers warranty can sometimes be for 2 or more years, as opposed to the suppliers less comprehensive 1 yr)

Use caution when offered an extra couple of % to pay by bank transfer. Paying anyone by direct bank transfer is absolutely not a good idea, even to save a few extra quid.


imho, peace of mind is worth a fortune. :cool:

My missus was also happy with hers.

Incidentally, according to DR, my `parcel` was valued @ £36.

As I've said on many occasions (& so have others) as long as the purchaser is aware of all the issues, it's their choice.

I know there were quite a few on here who swore by procamerashop, but where are they now.

This I agree with 100%, it's no wonder scams (like the Nigerian 419ers) have endured so long when people are so naively trusting as to just send large amounts of cash to an unknown individual on the other side of the planet without any manner of recourse if things go wrong.
 
I was very pleased with the service I got from HDEW, along with the 500 pounds I saved, when I bought a 5DIII.
 
I've no experience of using international shipping when purchasing from B & H in New York but it might be worth getting a duty paid price from them.

Here's a link to their duty paid policy on international orders - You'll just need to work out the rebel model equivalent to the 70d and purchase a uk to American mains adapter.

The 70D isn't a Rebel, so 70D is 70D, also Canon supply 110-220v chargers, no adapter would be needed, just a British lead for the charger.
 
As a Nikon user :nikon:I'm unfamiliar with Canon's models! I've just checked and the shopping cart shows 1558$ including all taxes,duties and shipping, just less than a £1000 at current exchange rates. Comparable with John Lewis but dearer than WEX or Park cameras.

I was satisfied ProCameraShop customer - and yes they did disappear - but I did not suffer as a result. The camera and lens I purchased last year are still working fine. More importantly I probably could not have afforded to buy those two items at UK prices - both items were around a 3rd cheaper.
In all my years of camera usage, if the camera or lens worked fine after the 1st week, it usually continued to work for the duration of the warranty period - so I took the calculated risk of ProCameraShop disappearing against the savings I made.

Mik0m - there are a number of regulars on here who seemed to have unreasonable aversion to grey imports - no names mentioned. They claim they are acting to protect the gullible from themselves - but the comments seem to go way beyond that. If you are comfortable with the VAT man potentially not getting his share of your hard earned money on a few purchases then just use a credit card and go for it. Worse case scenario if something goes wrong you have write a few letters to your Credit Card company!

Worst case scenario is that you beome a criminal. Defrauding the taxman is a crime. Of course if your morals allow you to ingore that fact then you may as well go and steal whatever it is you want. It's just as illegal and you get bigger discounts.

Oh dear, not that old chestnut again - already had this out on the ProCameraShop thread. There are far bigger Tax Avoiders / Evaders out there - household names - who have the legal and accounting muscle to avoid paying their morally appropriate share of tax - so if you are really bothered about everyone paying their fair share of tax perhaps you should join a lobby group which campaigns for the well known companies who are getting away with paying peanuts in tax - or even worse, increasing their profits at the expense of the tax payer. Instead you are trying to scare working people who are already getting a ripped off left, right and centre by the government, suppliers and employers in the UK.

It's a bit pointless trying to justify tax evasion by pointing out tax avoidance elsewhere.

One is immoral but legal, the other is both immoral and illegal...
