Over the years i have owned many good quality SLR film cameras and to the best of my knowledge never had any problems with their reliability .. they always seemed to work. However i have owned 5 Digital SLRs to date with 2 of them going faulty or faulty from new. My new Fuji S5 of 7 weeks old is back for sensor fault which only shows itself at ISO 1600+ .. and also my brand new 2 day old D300 has an obvious pixel out at ISO 800 and above so thats going back to jacobs today for replacement. So is it just my luck of the draw or are Digitals possibly less reliable overall ? ? ..

.. and how these 2 cameras got past their respective manufacturer quality control checks amazes me ... ! :shake:

Hi

We have owned

1) Nikon D1x
2) Fuji S1 x5
3) Canon 5D
4) Fuji S5

the D1x went wrong immediately with a failed shutter and took Nikon 4 months to repair. We had a problem with an S1 going wrong but a visit to Bedford and Fuji repaired on the spot. Ohter than that we have been lucky. We worked the S1s to their death - literally but we were impressed with how well they did.

I think as with all technology, there is more room for error as there is more that can go wrong. Its like a car, the new cars with electric windows etc have more things that can go wrong
