This may well be a long shot but worth a try nonetheless.

I have an Olympus digital recorder that my wife used to record some messages to me & her family before cancer took her away last year. I haven't listened to them yet as I can't bring myself to just now.

I'm paranoid though that I'll lose them due to damage or any other reason so desperately want to back them up onto cd/hdd but the only output is a mono headphone output or the built in speaker.

Is there anyone who could do a decent job of transferring this for me as this is the only record I have of my wife's voice :help:

THIS should enable you to record it to your PC by connecting the headphone output to your PC mic socket.

Can fully understand that Stuart, big losses like that stay raw for a long time - just remember that your dear wife recorded the messages as she undoubtedly wanted you to hear them ... in your own time :)

Nothing wrong with grief and tears Stuart, death at 35 is a really bad deal.

Stuart

Sorry to hear about your loss - desparately sad.

As a thought, could a friend help you with this so that you can get comfort from knowing they are safely backed up and you can listen to them when you are ready?

Thanks guys.
Adrian, good idea. I have someone who is happy to be with me whenever I'm ready to press play but I do know a Mac boy who may well be able to do the transfer now I think about it.

I asked my friend and he's reluctant because of the personal nature of what's on the recorder and the fact that I haven't listened to it myself as yet. I understand his reasoning as he was Vicky's friend too and doesn't want to "eavesdrop" on what was really for my ears only.

Hi Stuart, If you need this transferring from the recorder to a CD or other storage method of your choice let me know. I can do it and have the appropriate Olympus transcribing kit / software.

Some of the work I do involves doing the same for other people that have been through similar situations to yourself and I have now done this on at leat 12 occasions.

Let me know if I can help.

Chris

Chris,

That would be superb, so thank you and yes indeed. Apart from a very few snippets on our wedding video this is the only record I have of Vicky's voice so transferring to a CD would be great as I can then back it up in a couple of places so I never lose it. (I've done the same with the wedding video and all pictures of her and they're kept in the fire safe at work)

Please pm me so that I can make all necessary arrangements.

Thanks again,
Stuart

Chris that's really kind.

Stuart, this sounds just perfect for you.

Take Care.
