I need a digital compact camera for snowboarding and sailing. my requirements will be the following;

Able to cope with hard usage (as mentioned above)
Sub £200
Take SD Cards
Good Battery Life
Fairly Good video quality

ive had a canon ixus for about 4 years and its started to show its age now struggling to focus and not adjusting its white balance etc well. so would like something thatll last almost as long again.

ive got use of a 400d for good shots but need something thatll fit in my pocket for clubbing and when i go boarding and sailing without dying.

Personally I'd go again for another IXUS. I have an old IXUS 40 still going strong. Recently I bought my Mrs an Ixus 85 IS. Takes cracking shots with added IS. My one worry is that it doesn't appear to have quite the heavy build quality of my old Ixus 40. Hopefully it will last though...

thats what im leaning towards at the minute but not sure whether any other ones are better and which of the ixus range as theres loads to choose from.

I would suggest the Olympus SW series for the toughness, they would pretty much tick every box apart from SD card...

I've been doing a bit of research on this as I also need one for the missus and from what i've read the Ixus 860IS comes highly recommended. It obviously depends on your requirements though.

Otherwise, the Panasonic Lumix TZ range might be worth a look but I think they're slightly bulkier than most of the Ixus range.

I have a TZ3, the quality is bloody brilliant for a compact, but it is just a bit too bulky to pocket sometimes.

ive found the Canon Powershot A2000 IS somewhere for 199. are these any good???

i need to get into a few shops to see what thy feel like which i think ill do tommorow.

You're not going to get a better recommendation than this; I'm a Nikon boy but when it came to researching a P&S the only conclusion I came to was the Cannon IXUS860 by a mile. It's been everwhere including snowboarding up various mountains and it's still going strong.

I was looking for a P&S at £200 and ended up with a Ixus 85 and so far have been happily surprised by the results :)

(It was the only one at that price that had a optical viewfinder  )

G10 is rumoured to be coming soon and the G9 values will drop as they clear stocks

Refurb G9s can be picked up for c£200 if you're willing to go though the potential hassle of the RMA process.

£249 is a great price for UK stock.
