Interesting. I think i general more people can afford to buy digital camera and take shots without the expense of processing them. This has also lead to the increase in micro stock which relies on newbie photographers trying their luck. And some do quite well out of it. So the photography boom is happening in many markets. Even TP's Pete Carr openly states that with film he couldn't afford to experiment, and I'm sure there are many more similar to him. However quite often I do see on TP people individuals that think once they have DSLR they can go pro and make money from it, thinking it will be easy. So it's not just the paparazzi scene it's photography in general that has seen an increase in photographers.
 
good article, most GOOD magazines will require a certain size image that only the top DLR's can handle, but the tabloids will print anything as long as the content is what they are looking for, i think this is one of the problems, and these so called celebrity mags have taken over the mag racks, this is seeing the demise of harpers B and life mag as we know them, and in my opinion they did publish some wonderful photography.
 
I know I certainly would not be taking photos if the digital revolution as it were hadnt happened.

I had always had an interest in photography but there wasnt the possibility of me being able to with film, i just couldnt afford the costs.

However I like to distance myself from the type of people who take papazzi type shots, I strive for technical and aesthetic excellence in all my shots. I wouldnt do the type of celeb stalking either because I wouldnt want people doing it to me and I dont really follow the whole celeb scene either and cant understand why random pictures of people are supposed to be interesting :p
 
I also think peoples expectations of what a photographer should deliver is lower these days.
I have seen some of the work, for instance, from some of these "shopping mall" photographers and, to be honest, the quality is well, shy of the mark!
 
Hehe, I was about to write something along those lines soupdragon. It's a shame.

Great read though, can't beat the Guardian! :D
