Hi all - is there a clamp available to hold the diffuser hoop thing to a tripod? And, where's the best place for an umbrella - I only need about 3 ft I think but gold and white might be nice...

not sure about the hoop thing but in the advertisers section flash in the pan sells the umbrellas, maybe worth giving him a PM see if he has anything laying around for the clamp.

Do you mean for reflectors?

I use this on a light stand but with a brass spigot you could attach it to a tripod. (clicky)

Interesting, pricey but interesting - although it is not clear what is for sale exactly! (Warehouse Express linked one I mean)

I think I should be able to knock something up to fit on a ballhead easily enough, I am not keen on spending more on the bracket than the diffuser - but meanwhile, another question...

Given only one studio backdrop (and also given that disappearing-blue is way too advanced for me) what is the best to get, Patterned? Plain? Coloured (pastel, vibrant)? I have a spare space at the workshop and thought it would be some use. Sorry, no idea what I will shoot though!

Its a telescopic pole with grips to hold refloctors and pop-up backgrounds. It is full adjustable too which is perfect for reflectors.

Whilst it is £24 it is very well made and a useful bit of kit.

WHen I get home, if I get time over the next couple of days I'll take some pics of mine.

That would be handy, thanks Rob.

I guess a white background could be handy in many situations, you could use it for high key portraits or product shots. white easily turns grey when lit to suit... you could also use coloured gels on your flash to make it appear different colours - pretty flexible especially if your not sure what you will be shooting :)

Gels! See, stoopid me sometimes! Never even crossed my mind. Looke like It's a white one then... I shall see what I can find but I rather like a canvas-effect though.
