Difficult fix

Im looking to see if the below image can be fixed. The young girl has asked me is she can have the image and as im just learning just now then im quite happy she likes the pic. I did point out the fake tan on her knuckles etc and she didnt notice it until i said it.Im happy for her to get the pic but would like to give it a go fixing it.. Can it be fixed and if so--how? Any help appreciated. I still have the raw file and use CS4.

have you tried using the dodge tool to lighten it

Nope, as i said im not much cop with CS4 so any suggestions are welcomed.

As nick has said best way is use the dodge tool, on shadows, set it to 50% use the brush on the brown bits on her hand job done...

You will end up with something like this...(done quickly)

That is superb...Hell of allot better....You said it was done quickly but it looks really good to me. Will look into how to use the dodge and burn tool now.
