I am looking for a wide angle lens, i am pretty new to camera gear and was wondering what the difference between the two lens are and which one i should buy. Thanx in advance for the help :)

one of them has a maximum aperature of f3.5 throughout the entire zoom range where as the other goes from f4-to f5.6

hope that helps

If you plan on using the lens on a tripod or in good light for landscapes and the like go for the variable aperture it is sharper and you'll get no benefit from the extra cost of the f3.5. If you are going to be using it more creatively perhaps for skate parks or mountain biking then the f3.5 will five you more options.

yip as said the f4-5.6 is supposed to be sharper im also on the look out for 1 or maybe a 8mm samyang dont rule out a tokina lens there sharp lenses

also have a look at the tamron 10-24mm pc world have them for £349.99

I have shot with the non fixed version on a 550d for several years and always got excellent results, guess it just depends if you want to spend a bit more for the fixed version..
Either way its a nice lens :)

anyone know where the best place to buy this non fixed version new???

I've done a lot of reading up on both these lens' and looking at what I want it for (landscape/tripod) I'm plugging for the 4-5.6 version as it comes in at 100+ quid cheaper and the filter fitment is same as my 120-400 as well so i'll save a shed on filters too :)

Where did you buy it from in the end.....I'm looking at this lens as one of my UWA options.
