whats the difference between the nikon sb600 and the sb900, went into jessops and they really wern't much help for me at all.

There's a huge difference between them, power, size, features, adjustability and.......price

Don't know about the 600 but the 900 is very easy to set and quick to adjust, and the price of course. On saying that I saw an advert today that the 800 was more expensive than the 900

I noticed that on CPB yesterday - I guess anyone who still has stock is going to try and sell them at the RRP they were at when they were current models.

I saw some specs the other day whcih said that the SB-800 has a higher guide number than the SB-900 which puzzled me, especially when you consider the fact that the SB-900 will zoom to 200mm now. Hmmm, SB-900 + 200mm f:2 ....

I'd read that the SB-900 is 131@100 ISO, whereas the SB-800 is 125 with the same settings...

But it won't do centerd flash at 200:'(

I don't know if you can use the D50 as a commander (I know the D40(x) and D60 can't), but if not, the SB900 opens up that possibility for you in the future too.

How much more flexible would 2 sb600's or a new SB800 and a second hand 600 be for the same price?

What do you shoot?

I find SB-800 and SB-900 hugely overpriced and... I would never buy them again. SB-600 is smaller, recharges faster, it can be adjusted in every way you need - if you only know how to use it. I've had SB-800 and sold it, SB-600 does the job for me, including weddings and other crazy usage, too.

I am glad of this thread, I am bouncing about between buying 600 or 900 and def decided on 600 considering I only have one lens!

Buy yourself SB-600 and for the money saved buy lots of beer. That's definitely good idea. SB-600 does _exactly_ the same job as SB-800, and if you will learn how to use it you will be very happy with it.

i have been looking at the sb600 and the sb900 and i am more tempted to buy the sb900 for just over £300, the cheapest i could find the sb600 was about £150, but the sb900 has more options to play round with, and is splash proof and for bmx photography that is what i need.

I have a SB600 and SB900 really happy with both of them, the power is different and depending on what you want to do with it then the 900s 200mm zoom option can help with making light look really hard and punchy.

I looked at 800s but for the price I got a 900 from Jacobs for £302 delivered
