Hum they are being secretive to avoid crowds.
Thanks. Not sure where the best valtage point will be yet as it's pretty flat all round there. You can see the towers from the top of the M40 cutting but that's a bit too far for good pix.
No problemI spent many years with them as a part of the horizon, and sadly am too far away to go along to watch but a friend will be getting up early to watch the event, so many thanks for the heads up step72 !
Yeah my thoughts as well and many others3am to 5am! thats nice of them. Who needs sleep.
NiceFor information this is the view from Sinodun hills, about half a mile further along the ridge than the clumps so is is a good indication of what you will see from there.
Can you let us know what focal length lens you used for this image? - No EXIF data as far as I can see.For information this is the view from Sinodun hills, about half a mile further along the ridge than the clumps so is is a good indication of what you will see from there.

I should be there I'm just not the best with early mornings so I wouldn't be surprised if I over slept and missed it, although there is a campaign/petition to alter the time slightly so more people get the chance to to see them coming downVery interested in watching this - how many of you are thinking of going?

Cool, I've just come back from having a meal out and there's people in all sorts of places lolFair few up on Wittenham clumps already, plenty of togs and a few parties.
Haha I've the same worries I'm just as likely to over sleepYeah I guessed that's where you took that photo from, my brother lives in SC. The clumps actually afford a better view than in the snap I posted above. Now can I get up at 2 to get back up there?
What sort of settings you looking atHaha I've the same worries I'm just as likely to over sleep
Rumours have it that it's going to happen at 3.45 with them sounding a claxon 30 seconds before then a 10 second count down
These are just rumours thou
Just been tweeted by the MD of the demolition contractors, they won't know what time it will happen till 3am, sWhat sort of settings you looking at
I'm thinking very high iso wide open aperture and keep doing test shots and adjust the shutter accordingly ?

Cool, stay safeI don't really have the equipment for photo's at that time. A 24-70 on a 7D with a high ISO intolerance and an Xpro 1 are not the best combo's. I was just going up for the crack and to catch the dawn on the walk home.
It was 5am, I've seen some amazing video footage on FBNews said it happened around 7am. Hope people didn't wait too long.
I remember seeing a program about gliding on TV some time ago.
As part of one of the cross country tests, the glider pilot took off from Sutton Bank in Yorkshire, flew down to Didcot and then had to fly back to Sutton Bank.
To prove they made the trip they were required to photograph the cooling towers as they flew over.
What are they going to do now the towers are gone?
