Before I got my dSLR a week and half ago, I didn't really take much notice of all things camera.
Now, every time I see a camera or anything related such as an artistic shot I get all excited! I was watching 'Hitch' last night with Will Smith and one of the reporters has a dSLR with a big telephoto lens and there's me trying to figure out the model of the camera without realising :thinking:

The 'The Watcher' is on now and Keanu Reeves just walked into a camera shop and I was like zomg look at the lenses :lol:

The CEO was on the front cover of the FT magazine a while back and the shot is really good and there was me the other day looking at it trying to work out how the shot was done.

Is this normal behaviour or am I just weird? :exit: lol
 
Nah it's normal. I had never even noticed a SLR camera in my life before I bought one.

I went to Monkey World this week, and felt a bit of a tit with my new 70-200 F4L..... until everywhere I went someone had a bazooka lens and I felt normal again :D
 
It's normal, don't fight it.

No its not normal... however it nearly always happens. I find myself wandering around looking for shots and randomly saying things such as.. "its all about the light".
And you cant help but be drawn to other togs and asking what kit they use.

Sad or what?

I find I do it a lot too... If I can I'll even sneak a shot of someone else using whatever it is. I've got a shot from Goodwood of someone using what looks like an AntiAircraft canon... Gotta be a 600mm or something like that, it was white barreled too.
 
Entirely normal and it drives my fiance up the wall!

"your watching the film, who cares about what camera was being used!" is a common phrase heard.

CSI is a fun one for kit spotting, they seem to have a product placement deal with Nikon as, whenever you see them snap the crime scene, Nikon badges are right in your face!
 
Like lots of other things that I have done for pleasure (scuba diving, motorcycling, playing music, kiting) I start too lose interest once I meet people who are more interested in the equipment and seem to have forgotten the pleasure that the activity used to bring them.

Just don't get too wrapped up in the equipment - although you do need to compare other peoples experiences as better equipment tends to make the results easier (but not easy) to obtain.

Certainly for me, its not about being more interested in the kit than the taking of pictures.

I was the same when I started work. I work in Simulation, designing Aircraft Simulators. When I started I had no knowledge and little interest in planes. Only now, I can tell you what plan is what from a quick glance. Not because I plane spot but due to exposure in the industry and working with various aircraft types. Its the same with photography I guess, the more you work with, use and research kit the more familiar it gets to you. Thus you end up spotting things more.

Exactly. While I can appreciate that people like to talk shop, I didn't get into this to brandish statistics at people. Its just kit. I go out to capture what I see not toy with stats. Never got the urge to approach another guy and ask him what he's using. Though I have had the urge to see what he's photographing.
 
I've always been a geek :D I'm just more of a widespread geek now lol
 
I like watching peeps shoot, whatever equipment they are using.
The way and what they shoot, is more interesting than what they use, unless its something really unusual.
I don't care for camera/lens specs......yawn...

My girl complains about my driving...a lot...
Its not that I'm a bad driver but, but I'm constantly distracted by....stuff....like the car windows are a godamn viewfinder or something.
I swear without photography, my driving would be exemplary, that's pretty geeky I think.

You all know what I'm talking about, its not good is it...:shake:
