Now, I'm not the most observant person in the world, but I've just spotted the 'dig this thread' and 'add to delicious' bits at the top of threads. How long have they been there and what exactly are they?![]()

Digg is all about user powered content. Every article on digg is submitted and voted on by the digg community. Share, discover, bookmark, and promote the news that's important to you!
Keep all your bookmarks in delicious and access them from home, office, anywhere.
Share your bookmarks with family, friends, and colleagues.
Discover new sites from the delicious community (browse, find, get recommendations).
Seems to me they are just databases that want you to post articles (digg) shortcuts & favourites (delicious - crap name, btw), that you would normally have sent to friends/forums via a link (to the original piece or webpage) anyway - bet they are just after the web-traffic to 'support their sponsors'... someone's gonna be paying for the support and maintenance of their hardware.
E.G. I dont see the point of 'sharing' an article/video on digg, if its already on youtube/google/yahoo etc.
If they work for you, Pete, thats fine, and if they help you to work easier and faster, thats even better.
I probably came across in my usual cynical attitude of anything that is 'new' and 'all-eggs-in-one-basket'... just a little concerned as to what happens if delicious (sorry - the del. bit just reminds me of delete...) goes away for any reason? Some would find it mildly irritating, some would find it as catastrophic as losing their filofax (showing my age now
) or PDA.
And it's Matty to the rescue again ...

Their HD, my HD, anything can happen in the next half hour. You can export your bookmarks for use in Firefox and there's even a Firefox extension. If they crash and you loose your data its your fault for not exporting it![]()
Which brings me back to my original point... you can use bookmarks in your browser, and back them up; why store them somewhere else and back them up?
Its hard for me to access my bookmarks at home if I'm not at home. Plus I can share them between machines. I don't have to remember to back them up before a reinstall either.
I keep all my favorites stored in my head.
apart from remembering how many steps there are on a staircase like at lunchtime when I missed one and went over on my ankle![]()
