Hi all

Does anyone use a modern digital recorder for recording meetings, the sort you can leave in your shirt pocket for discretion if needed. There are times when I find an aide memoire would be great for completing my notes where memory is poor!

The settings are small groups around a boardroom table or just one to one business meetings.

What would you recommend and at this stage ideally at hopefully max £25 to buy???

I did several focus groups in 2015 and used an inexpensive £70-80 voice recorder and got good results, but if my budget was £25 I'd likely use my phone and possibly buy a cheap directional microphone and micro SD, even more so if you wanted to be discrete (minus the microphone) ... but I would feel uncomfortable doing it 'secretly'.

Your mobile phone?

Fair comment, but not sure how long they record for if say a meeting lasts 90 minutes?

Good points, which make/model of recorder did you use?

I've made 4hr +recordings in an iPhone 5s. I did have a battery pack attached.

Can't remember now as I moved jobs and left the recorder there, but think it was a Sony. At the time when I was looking it seemed to be Sony, Olympus or Tascam the best options.

I bought a sony one for my mrs a couple of years back. Its very good particularly at cutting out background noises but it was more than £25.

Another option if you're worried about storage space is to phone your desk phone and record the meeting on your voicemail.
Also means there's still a recording if people suss out that you're recording them covertly and beat you and your phone to a pulp. :D

And remember, strictly speaking, you are obliged to make all reasonable efforts to inform all present at the meeting that it will be / is being recorded. :-)
