Wake up with an uncomfortable feeling in the small of my back, as well as a hangover. Remember in the pub last night – those people upstairs mucking about with cameras. Showing it all off they were – serves that noisy bloke right for leaving his posh toy where I could grab it as I left. Let’s have a look then. Hmmm – wonder how much this is worth?

Idea. Have a trawl around the internet, see who knows how much these things are worth. Google “Nikon d300”. Let’s see – loads of ads, blimey how much? Lens as well – they’re even more expensive! Happy days…..

Gonna look dodgy if I try & sell something like this without knowing too much. Plenty of interest groups out there – maybe I’ll have a nosey about this one. Friendliest site on the internet huh?

Well they’re friendly enough. So friendly they’re wishing each other happy birthday! That’s good in my line of work see – date of birth is always a required field on credit applications & usually the hardest to get hold of. Even I can count back from 2008 to get the right year.

So someone wants to buy a D300 here in the “Wanted” section. Register under a pseudonym & make contact. Hmm.. too easy to get caught. Think I’ll take my time here, build up a few posts, bit of banter, maybe buy a few bits once I’m allowed - see who hates Paypal enough to PM me their bank account details. Might even buy a few cheap bits so they start liking me – until I disappear of course. So trusting on the web aren’t they?

There’s actually some nice websites linked here. Let’s have a look. No, not at the sites, at the site owner’s name & home address on that nice publicly available look-up service. Actually – some of the sites do have phone numbers. Best make a note of them as well.
No-one bothers to make ‘em private – they just don’t know that people like me can find out. Much less I can find out previous addresses, dates on electoral roll & the like – partners, older kids at home, you name it! They’re all so worried about spam they forget. Ain’t public access great?

14.30
That’s 25 names & home addresses in less than half an hour – complete with dates of birth & phone numbers. Not bad.

15.00
So what exactly do you all do then? Just adding employment details to my growing list of targets. Some of these are so easy to guess it’s not true. Students too – they got bank accounts as well.

15.30
So, who’s off on safari/group meet/business/holiday soon. Lots of advice on kit to take, shame no-one thinks of the empty houses full of stuff – trust me I know – they’ve posted the photos!!!

So what we got then. Names, dates of birth, home addresses, employers, full electoral roll data, family information, vacation dates & content of homes. That’s a lot for a day’s relaxing on a laptop. Especially an untraceable one like this.
Now, if only I could find some signatures to copy……maybe in the Gallery?

TP huh? Yep, Thieves Paradise it is indeed.

Ever thought about how much private data is being given away unwittingly?

Food for thought!
and when put like that, I guess its all too easy!

 what did you say you did for a living? :suspect:  Certainly made me think!

Unfortunately I have to work a bit harder (sometimes) for a living - but I do get first hand insights into how these scumbags work!

if they got my bank account they would be very dissapointed lmao

I was a victim of credit card fraud a couple of years ago, my card number was used to buy a guitar and at a online betting site, silly sods won though and the money was credited to the card :)

When I reported the fraud the CC company were good......but not so good as to let me keep the extra money :annoyed:
