Diary of a pro (part 2)

Cool - have only tried a UV LED torch on flies featuring sparkly material and the light was just too hot for long exposures. Never thought of a head torch.... have a few of them lying around in the camping kit :)

A rod builder eh.... I'm more of a rod un-builder if you get my drift

Biomasters are cool reels. Had one years ago but it got pinched. Just use Titanos XSAs for my big fish work these days. Reliable with a good drag.

Glad you're inspired :)

Another new post after having a play with my new SU-800 commander in order to update my beer can project..... never really done much with all this fairy lights malarky - maybe it's the new light paining!! ;)

Been the busiest month I've had for several years - everyone catching up on work they should of done and muggins here getting sent out to shoot it - so have just got round to writing a new piece about how the features actually come about. It looks at what I shoot, how I select and process and ultimately, what makes it into the magazine

Glad the blog is back :-)

Glad the blog is back :-)

Yep, hands up - I've been proper slack. New toy (D7000) coming tomorrow so that should provide some new material, especially when it comes to high ISOs when compared to the D2x. Lots of video work to do also, so that's another aspect of my game I need to work on, so to speak :)

No D4 or D800 yet :D

Unfortunately, the money tree I planted has failed to bloom for another consecutive year

I thought about the D800 but it was overkill for what I wanted and demanded too much high-end glass. Plus, the image dimensions and overall IQ are perfect for heavy cropping, in reality out print process is so low-grade that there's a point where the quality is meaningless. If I were doing high-end corporate stuff and it was being printed high-end then it deffo looks a nice buy.

The D4 looks great but I've yet to have a D3 grace my presence yet - I'm sooooo behind the times

I think i would perfer an D4 over the D800,maybe you can get them to buy a D3s

:)

I have to buy my own gear so anything higher than a used D3 is out if the question. Even one of those has to be considered carefully because its a big outlay....

That is the problem, had to buy my own gear,my biggest outlay every year, was film, got a little help from Kodak.

But if the camera was doing the job it stayed :)

Phew - been a long time!

Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd post here for continuity.

Latest post refers to a freelance job I took to cover a major rowing event on the Thames for Ebay UK. Great day but hard work. The client was immensely pleased with the job I did and have been promised the gig for 2013.

Anyway, blog post here - http://theviewingangle.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/a-day-on-water.html
