Yes
I am not left speechless that often but I was tonight after a conversation with DHL.

We need to get a key picked up from London and delivered to us here in Livingston, Scotland by tomorrow (Monday) - the price quoted? £350!!!!!!

Eh?

I've just had a quote from them to bring nearly 300kg up and it's just over £100 - must be a right heavy key

I was surprised when this was relayed back to me.

Our guy in London apparently called them up about an hour ago and asked for a quote to have the key picked up ASAP in London and delivered to us tomorrow and the quote he was given was for £350.

I know it is a bit short notice etc. but even so £350 is a bit steep

Next Day (By 10am) is £20 + vat by DHL, I'd imagine there will be a Sunday/last minute surcharge, but even so

Same day service, and the distance involved. I'm surprised it's not more.

I got a price off them to deliver a parcel (about 40 kg's) for a sat am delivery, collected Fri pm and their quote was more than a local taxi firm

Well we are not going to pay £350 to have a key delivered so an executive decision was made, some plans changed, and now the key will still be picked up in London but will be delivered Tuesday morning - price £15

Or a fiver or so by RMSD for the same result....

I would imagine the price had something to do with a Sunday pickup... does their network even operate anything other than the hubs on sunday?

I'm not surprised by the charge at all because the delivery would involve a courier making their way from London to Livingstone and back again. Take in to account the guys hourly wage and the travel costs then you'll soon get up to £350.

If the key was that important you'd have had it posted earlier.

This was only discovered at 10pm last night when the person who was supposed to pick the key up turned up to find the building locked up tighter than a ducks bum and the guy they were supposed to meet was back down in London with said key
