I did a search on this and couldn't find anything that answers my question (I am, however, being harrangued by my wife and mother in law about heavy lifting and loft duties for the baby's room, so I may have missed it).

For christmas, my darling sister bought me a bottle of Ilford fixer and some developer. I'm genuinely touched by the thought she put into my pressie this year.
Anyway, due to her interest in photography stopping at what effects her iphone can put on a picture, she's bought me paper developer (Ilford Multigrade). Since I dont do prints, I was wondering if this can be used to develop film, and if anyone has any experience of dilutions and dev times.

Many thanks

I'm sure it can be done, but I've got no idea how. You'll probably get some weird results though. If it's unopened you might be best to see if you can swap it for a bottle of film dev at a shop.

Useless post, I know, but there you go

Aye, utterly useless.... heh, nah, it might be worth a shot, the local jessops aren't a bad bunch.

At one time people used universal developer... I did so my self in the late 40's.

Your stuff will undoubtedly work, but will need extra dilution , but it will tend to give increased contrast and extra grain. Papers are inherently very fine grain, so their developers don't need to to enhance this.

I would ask to exchange it.

Okidoke, I'll give them a ring monday.
Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.

I've read somewhere about FP4 taking about 4.5min at 1/19 dilution in ilford multigrade.

Ive spoken to jessops and they wont exchange it without a receipt as it was a web order and on my sisters card.

I dint have the heart to tell her she got it wrong, so im gonna have a dabble with it, and maybe do a few prints.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, i'm on a very long week at work and get no time to myself now

Thanks puggie, I had a brief look and they looked useful. I'll have another look after work tomorrow, since I actually a day off after that.
