I have been using fotospeed chemicals and always give longer development times than recommended on the bottle. (college do too.) I now have some Ilfosol 3, and am wondering how accurate the recommended times are? Also, will the Ilfosol developer be compatible with fotospeed fixer?

Ilford's times are usually quite good so I would use their recommendation first then adjust from there.

Developers and fixers don't need to be 'compatible' as such and you can use any make of developer followed by any make of fixer.

Steve.

I used some Ilfosol 3 earlier this year to develop some HP5+ using their recommended times and they were spot on (rating the film at 400 ISO/ASA). I've used various Ilford developers over the years, both liquid and powder, and their times are accurate but as you become familiar with each individual developer, you can begin making your own adjustments if you like.

Interesting, I have bought fotospeed film developer, should I looking to add time on?

good job you're all mind readers as I forgot to say film not paper!! thankyou for the helpful replies.
yes alpina, 15 minutes for ilford hp5, 12 minutes for 100 iso (ilford or agfa) and 11 minutes for ilford 50 iso. Ilford sfx 13 minutes. I know these times are amazingly long compared with instructions, but honestly they were spot on. That is for the usual 1 plus 9 dilution at 20 degrees.

Just found out today that the reason I need long dev. times is because our water is very hard. So please ignore the above information unless of course your own water is hard. Hope I haven't been the cause of any spoilt film, Alpina.
