Hi all,

Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced detachable camera strap? One that uses the standard strap attachments on a 5D MKIII, also I'm guessing most cameras are the same anyway?

It would need to be something strong enough to give me the confidence to use it ;)

Thanks very much.

Edit: I'm looking at detachable, so that when I use my tripod I can remove the strap and reduce any vibration etc

Have look at the likes of black rapid, sun sniper, peak design. It depends what your take on reasonably priced is. You can buy cheaper versions on places like eBay but it's down to you whether you trust £1.5-2K of camera gear on a cheaper strap.

He did mention standard strap attachments. I don't think the blackrapid straps is standard attachment. I use a BR strap myself and it never let me down. I hang my D3 with 70-200 f2.8 and it have no problem carrying it all day. Like above said, I won't go cheap on a strap on your 5d mk3.

I use OpTech on mine, there are short clips on the standard strap attachments and a longer, comfortable strap that attaches to them. I just unclip it when I need to take it off. Very simple and secure - I use OpTech on my 500 f/4 as well with no compunctions.

Thanks all. I've just done a bit of searching and some of the straps have the clips a fair way up the strap, so there'll still be some movement? This one has the clips closer to the camera, so I think that would be better. Although it also has extra attachments for a 2nd camera that I don't need. http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-optech-reporters-strap/p1007805

Second that suggestion, used them on my 5D2 and 400mm with no issues, had their sling which spread the weight even more, also got the rucksack attachments too

I have 2, a Manfrotto Pro Light and Lowepro Transporter, both excellent strap the Manfrotto would be better suited for what you want as the strap detaches leaving short clips on the camera wheras the Manfrotto basically just detaches the neck part leaving the long straps with clips, this is because it then clips onto my backpack so I don't have anything around my neck.

Peak design, great system. I have the slide and prefer it to my Black rapid as it doesn't spin about when I'm walking and the strap clips off in seconds. I actually find it easier than the carabiner of the BR too. I actually have one attachment on the supplied tripod plate though as I find it more comfortable on the sling strap than having it on both camera lugs. I have the RC2 compatible tripod plate, but they also do an arca swiss compatible one too.

Another thumbs up for the Peak Design Slide, I have the Summitt version.

I use OpTech. Interchangeable between cameras.
I leave the connector/s on the cameras and swap between a hand strap or shoulder strap depending on what I want at the time.
I use them on digital, 35mm and medium format.

I use the optech and have been for around 5 years. I'd highly recommend

Am I the only one that doesn't like optech? :p

Yep. No class. :D
