Derren Brown, The Event live

It is the answer to life, the universe and everything. The question on the other hand..........

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy

Just watched the 'explanation' and think the same.
The explanation he gave is complete twaddle.

There is no way to predict true random outcomes. However, the question does still remain, how did he hoodwink us into believing he'd done it? (Or at least how did he attempt to hoodwink us ;))

I'm surprised no one's picked up on his choice of words, which are key to his misdirection and suggestion.
When the show started and he'd introduced it, he ran off the stage, down the steps, and to the 'podium', smiling. He then shouted quite forcefully and arrogantly "No no NO!" (A different tone as one would expect him to do which would be a gesture of humility at everyone applauding him). Then he was all smiles again as everyone settled down.
The then says "On wednesday I was handsome enough to predict Her Majesty's lottery live on television"

A strange choice of words don't you think?
Now, is this a very specific turn of phrase that gets the viewer thinking 'did he just say that?', gets their brain working out what/why etc...which opens them up to suggestibility.
OR, is it a deliberate turn of phrase to get us to THINK that its designed to open us up to suggestibility...which is a very cunning example of misdirection....make the viewer think theyve spotted the error. Make them think theyve got it. Lead them astray.

Also, the shakeyness of the camer is too rigid. Even good IS systems wouldnt be as 'precise' in its correction as that. It's like the camera is on a tripod and someone is moving it. It seems to only move on one axis at a time. That's definitely not normal hand held shakeyness.

And also....what happened to the second camera?

The footage from the 2nd camera will shown when it is truely revealed, to show what went on.

also the bit about the coin tosses had no relevance to the actual lottery numbers, it was added to increase our trust and belief in what he is saying. if he speaks enough truth then we will believe everything he says and does.

the coin toss is known as Penney's game, which disproves the perception that tossing a coin to achieve one sequence is completely as probable as achieving another sequence. however it had nothing to do with the lottery result prediction!

At the end of the day, nobody but himself knows how've did it. The thing he wants most is for people to talk about it. I'm sure he's sat at home Reading all the stuff people are coming up with and laughing his head off. Whatever anyone things, he is awsome lol

Indeed.

And do you know what? I think the 'cockup', the leftmost ball thats not perfectly aligned......was entirely deliberate.

Gets people talking about it more.

And THAT IS probably something we will never know !

thats a very convincing explanation, ive got my money on that. What I am looking forward to is his biggest trick/stunt, which I strongly feel this has all been a build up to.
