Hi Peter, sorry to hear your news, Great pic of the dog, well caught
Mono, very nice good converging lines, not a big fan of sky movement so would love to see an evening version I am sure it would be stunning
though perhaps not in mono
 
I've never had that 'discussion' but seem like you dealt with it well?

I do like this vantage point and you've done well with the blending and conversion. Silver EFEX fro is a cracking piece of software.

Some cracking detail in the buildings and a nice reflection in the water.

Personally, I prefer a portrait orientation to get more of the water/reflation in.

Great shot of the springer Peter, pov is perfect, detail round the eyes and dof looks spot on (y)

Mono- Another great image, again a process I wouldn't know who to do but it certainly works (y) looks an interesting place, I'm adding it to my 'must call and have a look sometime' list :D
 
Typical security guard then mate - clueless !!!!

For me I'm not sure on the cloud movement... but the rest of the shot I really like, I like the way the buildings converge from either side and draw my eye to the tower in the middle, nice conversion and nice still images with the big stopper in the wind :thumbs:

Many thanks Allan. I definitely want to go back for the evening shot. As you say the colour one may work better as I still want some blueness in the sky. I'm going to wait until Autumn/Winter so I'm not out on the streets with camera gear too late. That said it the days start getting shorter in 39 days :eek:

Thanks Andy. I didn't actually try a portrait shot as I wanted to capture the buildings both sides. Worth trying though when I go back.

Cheers Dean. For anyone taking photos there beware of the wind. It seems to fly down between the buildings so make sure you've got a steady tripod.

Hi Peter,

Good to see you getting back into the photgraphing, you have my sympathies.

Mono is my type of shot, love the wide panoramic aspect, and the ice like water, the movement in the sky does appeal, but I can't help but feel that a different day / weather conditions could produce something even better.

Week 17 - Twisted

Cheese Twists by Delta Skies, on Flickr

I struggled to get this theme going. My original idea didn't seem to work once I put a camera in front of the subject and then a quick purchase in Morrisons last night meant I might get something. Taken as a long exposure (8 seconds @ f5.6) in natural light is as far as I can explain as that was all it was. Some slight cloning/healing was about as much as I did in PP.

Mono... I really like it, my editing is very basic so its nice to see someone doing things differently, the tall building at the back draws your eye in, in a good way (y)

Twisted... nice one, and you get to eat the props:)

I quite like that you've enclosed the them in the container, but feel, and I know I talk often about crops :), but I'd like a slightly tighter crop.

I think I'd like a clean BG as well but not sure.

Regarding the Royal Armouries, I have a portrait on my Flickr that you can look at. I didn't want to post a link as it seemed like bad form.

A meet might be on the books as I've not been to the Armouries for a while at night; and I'm conscious we've not progressed our photo crit chat we mentioned a while ago :thumbs:

twisted - nice and simple, neatly arranged inside the jar, and a BG / base that looks like a dining room table and a wallpapered wall, which is quite acceptable to me, esp as the colours work well with the colour of the subject.

Thanks Graham. I have to admit it's not a real wall. Sarah made it a while ago by sticking some wallpaper on a piece of hardboard.

Week 18 - Fresh

Freshly Baked by Delta Skies, on Flickr

More food photography this week. Seems to be a habit LOL. Mixed lighting on this one - Daylight and also a couple of Metz continuous lights to fill in the shadows. In case you ask.....yes they tasted very nice :D

hi peter, they defiantly look fresh! the lighting looks really good and the crumbled cookie works well to hold interest too. crit wise I have to be a bit nit picky because I like it - the surface colour is quite similar to the cookie so it doesn't immediately stand out and the framing is a little tight on the left. but like I say, that is nit picky! :)
 
Hi, nice low angle and just the right DOF. The crumbs add t it but they don't seen to be th main buscuit :thinkin:

It looks slightly blue (cold) on my work's PC which doesn't lend itself to the subject matter.

Wish I could cook :(

nice job - liking the portarait orientation with the cooling rack in the BG.

Few less crumbs for me, and definately a fair bit too cold on the WB as Andy said.
 
Hi Peter, Twisted is superbly lit no distracting highlights and shows both the twists and the jar really well, natural light too (y)
the biscuits great depth of field and a good composition not sure if its the white balance or the biscuits needed another couple of minutes in the oven, only you would know :)

Thanks Adam. I think you are right about the similarity of surface to cookie. I'm not sure that it's as powerful as I envisaged as a result.

Thanks Andy. Well spotted the crumbs are off another biscuit. I think the coldness is the kitchen surface in this case which hasn't helped. Easily solved in PP though.

Thanks Allan. As I said to Adam above I think the tone/colour of the surface is too close to the cookie. Have overdone cookies or use a different worksurface is my choice I guess.

Twisted....yup , like it , sharp through the glass , no horrid reflections on same :clap: Again , a personal thing in that I'm not keen on the base as dark wood is not my thing , I think the BG is blurred just enough for the pattern to not be over powering

ooops , missed Mono.......really good conversion ( I must get to grips with Silver fx !) Gotta ask as feeling extremely blonde today...why 2 exposures ?

Thanks for the kind words and also the catch up Lynne. The two exposures were used as the sky was too plain behind the church when I took the shot so I added a more interesting one to help boost the picture somewhat.

twist - on theme and like the comp. Looks much better on Flickr as the colours seem better and that orange seal pops.
Fresh - agree with all crit re colour/coldness and that the crumbs seem to have come from another biscuit. My brain also wants it to be turned ccw slightly:thinking:

Fresh - Again a great idea, DoF works very well, crit only as others have said re the full biscuit, other than that love the detail and texture of the main one, very nice to look at, and bet they sure did taste good :thumbs:

Thanks Dean. Yes the long exposure on the twisted shot was using natural light and a couple of large pieces of black card to cut down on any reflections in the glass

Week 19 - Shape

Keeping in Shape by Delta Skies, on Flickr

Not an original idea but I'm on catch up. Lit by a softbox and a fill in light bounced into a brolly. I did try to use a shiny white tile to get some reflections but couldn't get enough distance between the apple and the dumbbells so settled for a large piece of white card instead. Had to play with quite a few adjustments in PP to get the contrast, brightness, etc. just how I wanted it.
