weekly Delta Skies 2012 52 Week Challenge - Week 52 "Busy" added

Ooohh, nice, didn't think of that idea. Great, vivid colours and liking the composition.

Think I'd like the whole photograph in focus because none of the tubes are the focal point, if you know what I mean. There is an odd patch near the top of the lower tube

Cheers.

i like it I dont think it matters about the oof as we know its tubes of paint and then only the colours matter

excellent idea  I'm guessing you tried to get the paint oozing out of the cap but it wouldn't play? It does look a bit watery for that. The nearest tube (cap) is a bit odd due to being so oof, I would maybe have upped the F and got more of the tubes in focus. Tis a great image though :)
Thanks Summer. Yeah these were water colours which I wanted for my original idea but for this I'd have been better off with oil paints. I see what you mean about the closest tube. This was taken at f5.6 but I did take others up to f16 although wasn't as keen with everything being sharp.

Thanks Andy. See above re: oof. The odd patch is some shadow which seems to have fallen foul to Flickr's wonderful uploading. :bang:

Thanks Allan. I did try adding a saturation layer but found the image didn't improve with it so left it as it was.

Hi Peter :)

Pack - Nice One !!!!

Lighting, POV are spot on, and the condensation damn nice touch

Art - I know I always say it, but damn you guys and your lighting, that is really effective, real good colours

Tough to find some crit... but All prime colours would have been perfect :D

Thanks for the feedback Dean. The problem with doing a 52 at this time of year is that if you don't get the shot at the weekend it means getting the lights out on an evening. Good practice though.

So sorry I've not commented for a while, but here goes :)

Change; great idea, nicely taken, though I agree the shadows are a slight problem.

Natural; Lovely lovely shot - one of your best I think.

Age I really like. You've captured a nice angle there.

Spread is perhaps a bit obvious, but its well taken. Chocolate spread on crumpets though? Yuck!!!

Together works really well. Somehow it's screaming to me to have the pie rotated a few degrees clockwise though. I just think it'd look a touch more natural that way?

Pack isn't working for me I'm afraid; I guess for me it needs a more interesting angle.

Art is great though! Love the colours, the DoF, the exposure. Perfect!

Good idea for ART, well-lit and dof not a problem

I would have gone for a redder red (if you see what I mean) and perhaps yellow instead of green - art and colour, starting from the primary colours so to speak.

Hi Peter

Art - great idea. I like the angle, pov and rich colours and am with DK on wishing I could light like that.

As to colours presumably you were keeping the connection with digital images of RGB. But I agree with others about focus cos to me the green tube is more in focus than the red , yet the red is at the front drawing my eye. Minor point - did you consider cloning out the highlights in the paint lines?

Hi Peter,

Pack - Great idea and like the water droplets / condensation look. Very nicely exposed with nice whites.

Art - Again a very good idea, I like the streaks of pant and your selective focus on the middle tube. Bang on theme and works well.

Hi Peter

great image for Art....quite like that only one tube is in focus as well....lovely colors & a nice white bg , great angle....top stuff mister

Hi Peter, yet another post for art which could fit quite happily with this weeks theme too. Perhaps there is more to be had out of these paint tubes for this week

I do like the bright vivid colours here, as someone mentioned, maybe the inclusion of yellow would add more contrast? May be switch for the green as it does seem a little flat in comparison to the red/blue.

That aside Peter, I really like this, a different take on the theme and not one which crossed my mind but its one of those that made me think "such a simple yet effective idea, wish I'd thought of it"

Cheers Bob. I see what you are saying about the colours

Nice vivid colours, I like the angle and the focus of it. Makes it a bit different!
Thanks Alex

Thanks for the comments Alan. Amusingly I tried (but failed to make it look realistic enough) to add a missing highlight on the green.

Hi, Peter,

Art is a lovely shot, great composition and lighting:thumbs:I would possibly trim a smidge (technical term) off the bottom so the red starts in the corner.
Thanks Marsha

As some of you might know flying kites is our other hobby. This is a head of a traditional Chinese dragon kite which flies using a train of small flat round kites behind it which extend up to about 50-60 feet. There was no way I could get all that to fit it the front room so just took a shot of the head instead. I believe the beard is a symbol of intelligence and talent (I knew there was a reason I've got a goatee ). I just thought it was full of colour which I accentuated by using a black background.

Monday night at the camera club was a lights night and one of the professional members gave a demo on lighting and brought a model along. I threw this one into Silver Efex and selected a high contrast filter hence a reshoot on the Contrast theme.

Ooooo I like that - Very Nice
Cheers Dean

Lovely lighting there Peter. I love how the eyes pop. What was the lighting set up you used?
Thanks Michael. Rather than bring studio lights, the speaker used a couple of speedlights - one at the front through a brolly and one behind through a small softbox. He was doing this to show you don't need to spend a fortune to get a decent result.

both colour and contrast are excellent excellent
Thanks Allan

Colour is a lovely shot; really sings colour to me, and it's nice to see a kite shot NOT in the sky! (I fly kites too BTW, but mine are sports kites. Haven't taken them out for ages :()

Contrast, wow! Lovely shot that captures the beauty of the model wonderfully. You've done her proud, accentuating her stunning eyes.

oooo I love kites :) currently trying out KAP - very colourful model you have there

and the portrait is brilliant

hi ya

Reshoot of Contrast....like the whole image in terms of processing & lighting ,far better than I could ever manage , not so keen on the direction of her gaze for some reason ...can't put my finger on it but it feels a little uncomfortable ? Amazing detail in her eye's & the sheen on her lips is just fab

Color..can't fault it at all...get it framed mister :clap:

Another one I appear to have missed!!

Colour, yip, has it in spades..nice and sharp.

Contrast....wow....wow....wow...has a very gothic feel to it, which I like. Great overall lighting and composition I s spot on. Crit, well, I do seem to be getting picky these days, but, highlight on lower lip and maybe a tad brighter eyes??

Cheers.

Colour - bang on Peter, lovely vibrant tones set off well against the jet black background. Technically very good, well lit, composed and sharp.

The portrait is very good too, lovely catchlight in the eyes from what you have described as a quite simple set up. Minor crit would be to have a little more separation of the model's head/hair from the background. Iain

Thanks Mark. This is a kite we hardly take out due to it's fragile nature but should do as it looks great against a blue sky.

Thanks Summer. We almost got into KAP but never made the leap. We always seem too occupied when flying our own at festivals. Even though they are staked into the floor we never like to be far from them (H&S and all that). Have you been on the KAP forum? - Loads of useful stuff on there

Good Art shot! Like the use of depth of field and vibrant colours.
The portrait shot is excellent! For an introduction on lighting, you've incredibly well!
Cheers Steven

Without some lovely sunlight I haven't been inspired with this week's theme. Not being able to be far from the bathroom since Friday hasn't helped either. :( However I forced myself to get the camera out today and came up with these shadows. OK technically they are shadows of silhouettes but that's getting silly

Thats a really nice image, sounds like you are a shadow of your former self not being able to get away from the bathroom :)

Very nice Peter. The background I really like, what is it? Composition looks good and there is nice detail in the leaves.

Hi Peter.

Good, different take on the theme. Good use of a 'mono' colour and good detail and composition.

Thanks for the comments Michael, Alan and Allan

Re: a shadow of my former self - I need to sell a diet book/video now - I've found a way of losing over half a stone in four days
