weekly Delta Skies 2012 52 Week Challenge - Week 52 "Busy" added

Cheers Andy. The idea came from the saying "ringing in the change" which lead me to think about a photo of a bell sally (I didn't realise until a bit of googling that the furry bit was called a sally). I knew Rothwell Church did bell ringing on a Thursday (too late in the week) and then found, via the Yorkshire Association of Change Ringers website, that Swillington did theirs on a Monday evening. Popped down there for opening and got this shot in.

Hi Peter :)

Change - Great Idea, I agree about the shadows, but limited without pp I like it still, Colours look good to me, and the detail in the Rope (:suspect:) is clear

BUT I must say
....... Church did bell ringing on a Thursday (too late in the week) .........
Sounds Early to me :D

Good idea, now you've explained it got to say I was a bit confused too, I work for a church and I have to say the bell ringers are an odd bunch. can't really add any crit other than what anyone else has said.

I like this one Peter, and I think the shadows add to it :) At first I thought the change part was the colours changing on the sally - stripes etc, then I thought 'ring the changes' so you got it on both counts

Thanks for the feedback guys

Natural - super abstract shot!
"No points for guessing what it is..." Why not?? What exactly is it!?? How was it shot especially how was it lit??
Cheers Mike. Apologies it seemed too obvious but then again I was there

It's a leaf taken with a 60mm macro with sunlight directly behind the subject.

nice pic diagonal works really well and excellent exposure

ooo I like this, it actually looks like the vein is a shadow behind the leaf, lovely and abstract for me :)

Hi Peter

Natural - good detail, nice capture of the colour and the light.

Nicely abstract as although the subject is fairly obvious, it is also reminiscent of the type of shot taken from a plane or satellite of fields/ paddy fields/ irrigation channels through fields. Excellent

Thanks Alan. I see what you mean about the paddy fields.

Oooh! I had the same idea!! I should have got in quicker!

Anyway, never mind .... and this is a superb effort and much better than I would have managed. Nice and abstract, definitely natural and natural lighting. Spot on!

Nice one Peter... boy I wish I had thought of that, it's a cracking image

Thanks Dean and Bob. I'd say just because someone has already posted something similar shouldn't stop you from posting your own version.

Nice one Peter
A relatively simple take on the theme but a very effective one at that.
The light, colour tones and detail of the image all come together to make a very pleasing on the eye photograph. Iain

Hi Peter

great shot for Natural , no crit from me , love the lighting , the colors & the detail you've caught

Change....not really crit but the angle is killing my OCD ( think Bob did an odd angle & that hurt me as well  ) I do like the color in the rope though & certainly an original idea fo the theme

Now that really is a cracker. Great colour and light. The red on the front of the train really adds to it. The driver is another great edition. The detail in the steam, especially the first steam, is super.

Crit....hmmm, well, you know, for the first time in a very long time need, I offer no crit

Nice interpretation as well.

Best get my thinking hat on because at the moment I have nowt :thinking:

Cheers.

Age - Lovely pic. Tried a shot of a train myself yesterday - bloody difficult and it didn't work out. I couldn't get a decent composition despite the fact you can hear it coming. You did really well on that front. Maybe crop a bit off the LHS though to emphasise the train in shot a bit more??

Sorry for lack of reviews lately, personal problems take so much time.

Up – Simple shot with great composition and colour. Not so easy to shoot, did you need to crop from wider shot?
Duo – well thought out connection. Remember the days when such a corny show was top of the ratings.
Flow – Can see the flow and think the BG grass etc add to the effect
Friendship – excellent, no other comment necessary
Change – like the angle and colour. Not too sure it meets the theme as change refers to the sequence the bells are rung.
Natural – not a lot to say other than great abstract shot.
Age - steam train shots are always so emotive. Good angle chosen to bring out the best.

my dad has steam train prints on his wall and this one would not look out of place next them - amazing shot

Hi Peter,

Age - I like your interpretation of the theme (I love old trains!). I appreciate that you probably don't have much time to re-compose and try different points of view when you are shooting something like this but did you take anything closer up? Personally, I would have liked to see more of the train and less of the surrounding landscape, to make the train stand out more. As it is now, it gets a little lost. I agree with Mike -- I think cropping some of the left hand side out would help.

Fantastic shot for age can't crit it at all , like Andy I also have nothing yet not one thought

Cheers Andy. I think age is one of those themes that at first glance sounds easy but actually turns out to be quiet tricky.

Belter. Great Age shot.
Thanks Robert

Thanks for the comment. I see what you mean about the crop. I took quite a few different shots from far distant to side on so do have some that show the train even closer.

Age - some lovely detail and colours there. Good sky and steam. Like the way that the train appears to be coming up and at the viewer.

But a Southern train in North Yorkshire? :D
Cheers Alan. The spot isn't that far from the track and was using the 17-55mm on these ones.

As for it being a Southern train......when in service (from the 20's) this engine would have spent most of it's time pulling freight from/to London and Southampton/West Country. So yes a little distance away from home.

Thanks for the catch up John. Good to hear you are back.

Thanks Nat. As mentioned above I did take quite a few as the train went along the track. I suppose I'm a landscape man at heart so the surroundings were what I was after - that and the great plume of smoke billowing out of the chimney.

Fantastic shot for age can't crit it at all , like Andy I also have nothing yet not one thought
Many thanks Allan

Whoops. Sorry Summer my clicking of buttons failed and I missed you out for some reason. I saw your emoticon come through on my phone at work this afternoon and got worried I'd said something wrong. Turns out I didn't say anything at all - so thanks for pointing it out.

my dad has steam train prints on his wall and this one would not look out of place next them - amazing shot
Thanks Summer for the kind words. If you PM your Dad's address I'll pop him a copy in the post.
