Yes
I bought a dell u2711 back in the early part of 2012(maybe late 2011) june 2011 and originally had problems with it, around march I got it replaced finally and its worked fine up until last night.
Now im getting flickers and lines on the screen. Looking online it looks like it might have broken.

I got the monitor from NRG IT Ltd on ebay and im pretty sure they offered a 1 year warranty on it as all their current sales offer 1 years RTB warranty.
If the monitor is dead or on the way out what options do I have?

How bad is it? If you use a cheaper cable or apple DP to dual link DVI adapter there could be some interference from extra USB cables, your phone and so on.

You should do a test with no cables plugged in and then press 1st and 4th menu buttons on the screen together. This will show plain grey. If you press again you will cycle through the colours. If the lines still show up it is certainly time to panic, if not maybe check the connection and other devices.

i've run the LCD conditioning thing as it does the colours without getting signal from the computer, sadly the lines still showed up. Im thinking that it was a refurb so im guessing im out of luck with the dell warranty.
Although right now the lines have stopped so maybe moving it around to find the serial number fixed it....

You won't have a service tag if not purchased directly from Dell AFAIK.

The service tag is essentially the serial number. All dell kit should have one unless removed.

Actually it isn't. I had a long, drawn out discussion with Amazon and Dell over this very subject a couple of years ago.

Actually I think you're right because eventually the codes are recycled. I've entered really old codes into their site and got new model results. I don't think they use regular serial numbers though, I don't have anything in front of me to check.

All dell kit should have a tag however, I'm yet to see any dell machine without one coming from various sources over 8 years :)

This is what a service tag looks like - I've bought two Dell items from Amazon themselves - no service tags and a hell of a job to try to sort out whether or not I had a three year Dell warranty as Amazon stated. I've also bought two PCs direct from Dell and they have the service tags attached.

This is what the tag looks like (it's a stuck on label):

Yup I know what the tags look like, we've got 100s bits - and probably gone through 100s more in the last 8 years - of dell kit from various sellers :)

I'd suggest someone removed the tags if they weren't there. The factory won't know who's going to end up selling the kit, especially a monitor.

The only reason I can think to remove them would be if it was a refurb the tag was tied to an existing business support contract (if you give dell support a tag that is tied to a company you have to confirm the full business details before they'll help you).

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has bought a Dell PC or monitor (not bought direct from Dell) without this tag on.

I'm 99% sure my refurb has as I used it to get an up to date driver from the support page.

I can't confirm that at the moment as I'm on a train to work.

Sorry - should have said "not bought direct from Dell".

My refurb was from nrg.

(Insidently sorry to the op for the hijack)

No worries.

For some reason it stopped for a couple days and now its back. I think i
ll leave it on and see if it goes after time as maybe its a cold monitor thing. Its an absolute b****r if the monitor is knackered though :(

I bought mine from OCUK and mine developed a fault after 2 months, dell we're fine about it although they tried to give me a recon replacement, I said no I want a new monitor as mine was not fit for purpose, the guy on the phone immediately said that's fine and sent me a new one with a new 3 year warranty
