Yes
Looking at buying th above monitor and I need to upgrade the current onboard graphics card to soemthing more suitable.

It appears there is a known issue with Nvidia cards usinh HDMI to PC monitors (0-255 hdmi issue).

So, I would like recommendations for a cheapish silent PCIe card that ISNT Nvidia.

Why can't you use the onboard? Most recent stuff will handle 1920*1080

How much do you want to spend?

Onboard will will only go to about 1280 from memory. Its about 4/5 years old IIRC.

I think £30 tops shopud cover it fpr the replacement.

What's the issue? We use ati and nc idea to PC monitors without an issue.

Here's 3 for you - not gamers cards, but will be fine for photo editing.

£20 http://www.ebuyer.com/255113-msi-hd...i-hdmi-vga-pci-e-low-profile-r5450-md1gd3h-lp
£27.50 http://www.ebuyer.com/265347-sapphire-hd-6450-1gb-ddr3-dvi-vga-hdmi-pci-e-graphics-card-11190-02-20g
£28 http://www.ebuyer.com/625030-xfx-amd-radeon-r5-230-1-gb-ddr3-dvi-hdmi-pci-e-graphics-r5-230a-zlh2

They are all much of a muchness - 1Gb RAM, and 64bit memory bandwidth won't set the world alight, but will be man enough for a larger display than you described.

Thank you Toni, will have a look at those. Im not after a gaming card, so this level will be fine.

Dale - the issue with Nvidia cards is they wont output to the highest level via HDMI - they assume HDMI is going to a HD TV and lower the res. There are a number of fudges around, but Im not interested in buying new gear to do that with,it should all work together properly and happily without fudges.

I've read a bit and it appears if you use DVI out, it will do full quality, you can use a DVI to HDMI cable.

Yep, OR buy a non Nvidia card.... :)
And end up with 1001 other issues (I've never had a great deal of success with ATI...).

Ah, right. DVI is the right one to use unless you need audio along with video output down the same cable.

or displayport if that is available.

rules out nvidia HDMI issues :)

ok, any recommendations for a card with displayport out ? This is getting far more complicated than I ever though it would be.

The Dell doesnt have DVI in and Im cautious of using DVI/HDMI leads in caes the same issue arises.

At the risk of another ATI vs NVIDIA debate starting up (there was one a short while back), I use a Radeon card via Display Port and output to a 27" in screen at 2560x1440 with no problems at all.

Admittedly, I have an R9 290X because I play games also but you wouldn't need even a 5th of the power of that card. I'd say, work out what budget you have and use it. Don't go for the cheapest card but don't over spend. I used to edit perfectly well on a Radeon 5850HD card via DVI then display port when I upgraded my screen.

Display port would be more desirable but then there's still nothing wrong with DVI (Aside from the lack of DVI input on the monitor)

Ps. I've had both NVIDIA cards AND ATI cards. I've had 2 NVIDIA cards fail yet all ATI cards have never given me a problem.
