Hi All
I have a Dell Latitude D610
It fell from the arm of a chair and has not worked since. No physical damage apparent.
The neon lights all light up. The battery charges but nothing else works.
I can’t hear the hard drive or the fan working. The screen remains black.
Where do I start to repair this?
Is it doom and gloom?
Thanks in advance for any help.

:bonk:

Plug it into a monitor and see if the computer works using the monitor as a display. This will tell you if it is the display that is the problem or the main board....

It could be a broken main board, a broken display or simply a loose connector.

open a few screws and the fault *might* suggest itself

The 610 you pretty much have to tear down to see anything useful.

But it is worth checking the ram modules are still seated as a starter for 10. You have the flap on the underside plus the modules under the keyboard (use a small flathead to prise out the power button/led panel, then undo the 3 keyboard retaining screws) depending how much memory you have.

Hi Again

I removed the hard drive and replaced it. This made the fan work.

I removed and replaced the memory, no improvement after that.
Next I removed the keyboard and looked around with a magnifying glass no visible defects.

It will be a few more days before I can return to it. In the meantime has anybody got any more suggestions?

Could it be the hard drive?

Many thanks to you all for your help so far.

Graham.

Hi.
The wires leading to the monitor are secure. I can’t understand why the hard drive is silent. Could dropping it cause it to stop working?
