I am looking at buying a laptop and keep coming back to the dell outlet since bang for buck the prices are pretty reasonable. Two questions, are the certified refurbished laptops pretty much open box returns and are the batteries like new or do they normally have a fair bit of degradation?

Cheers

Mostly, the units are unwanted returns. You would find they are like brand new, boxed etc etc. Batteries should be A1 in condition.

that's great news thanks, i may well take a punt then and at least if it comes and the battery is pap then i can return it i imagine. I just don't see the point in buying it if i know beforehand its probably no good. Thanks for the help

I've bought 3 laptops from there and no problems with batteries. I don't think any of mine were actually customer returns, they were previous model lines and appeared to be brand new.
You need to keep your eyes open and there are some great bargains but they go very fast!

@AMcUK that sounds very positive, i have now bought one so fingers are crossed that it is as you have experienced! The one i went for is an inspiron, i5, ssd, dedicated graphics and 8gb of ram. Bought for uni but also to do some photo editing and autocad work hence the boosted spec over just a uni machine. Only downside is that the screen isn't ips so i can see the photo editing side of things being kept more to culling sets and basic edits and then editing properly on the main pc but at least this will mean not spending night after night in the office at home working and never seeing the mrs and pooches!

I have bought from the DELL outlet store in the past too. My most recent acquisition however came from ITCSALES, they are a DELL 'refurbished' reseller, I bought a DELL Vostro 5581 i5-8265U laptop with almost 3 years onsite warranty at a better price than the outlet store could offer. Like the DELL outlet store, their stock turns over pretty quickly.

I have also used EuroPC in the past too. I used all three suppliers when I managed a school network & was buying laptops for school children to destroy.......... In my experience DELL laptops are easier to repair & the spares are more readily available.
