Delivery by drones

The prospect of this was actually raised and publicised quite a while ago. It seems to have resurfaced. I don't see it being practical for the majority of residential properties

just another gimmick,

Somebody on the radio just now, who actually works for a drone manufacturer, said she thought it was unworkable. I have to admit I can't see how it's supposed to be feasible.

Yodel has always used drones.....

On topic - London will never see drone deliveries but look at technological development over the years and the original ideas are often used to reinforce and improve currently available methods of working. Light bulb moments have brought us to a point in time that were science fiction not long ago.

Example - SpaceX reusable launch system

Sort of nonsense they use to show on Tomorrow's World, wonder how many of those ideas became reality?

So many reasons this wouldn't work, still it keeps people employed, shame they can't devise something useful though

Just a good marketing trick by Amazon. Keep's their name in the press.

Teleportation is the thing,if we could crack that then the TV you ordered would appear on the table where wanted,no messin about.
TV complete with the fingertips of the shift worker who was too tired to removed his hands fast enough before that other chap hit -send-.

Ordering a washing machine and getting it delivered via drone sounds interesting, Slipping from it's grasp from at 1000 mtrs like a bomb through your roof,.. Exprees delivery sir please remember to leave a review :)
What happens if you live next to a airport where the use of drones is frowned upon.

That's easy - you will be told to collect from the nearest Amazon Locker :D

They announced this last year for the USA, I don't think anything has actually been delivered anywhere yet so bit of a non story, so as Johnnypanic says ^ gimic.

The opportunity to bring one down and nick the parcel must be easy. So I cant see it being practical.

How about the directly in sight restrictions?

How about the directly in sight restrictions?

I'm sure that would only apply to Joe Bloggs, not massively tax avoiding commercial ventures.

There is scope for BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) in CAP 722 Unmanned Aircraft System Operations in UK Airspace. It's permitted if a safety case is submitted and approved by the CAA.

Kinell, the UK weather alone will put paid to these.

Or maybe this idea is actually a secret Govt backed initiative to keep a closer eye on us........& maybe even carry mini missiles. ;)

'xactly. They would only work in areas of high density housing where people have gardens and there's a very low crime rate. Belgravia, basically. If you're rich enough to live there you probably have somebody who could pop out to the shops for you.

My theory is they are putting in just enough hours so that if anybody ever makes it work they can claim prior art and nick all the patents.
