I initially thought I had posted in the wrong forum, so I attempted to delete the post and re-submit it in a more appropriate section. Unfortunately, this resulted in two posts being created. Shortly after, I received a notification stating the post was deleted due to duplication, with no contact information or further guidance. It would be helpful if moderators offered some support or direction rather than sending out a generic message—especially when someone might genuinely need assistance. The OP double posted. AIUI the team was notified and a mod deleted a duplicate post (leaving just one) and used the function that sends a message to the person whose post was deleted explaining why. One of the pair of posts was left up. @dcash29 please explain if your perception of this was different.
Kipax, I don't appreciate your comment.
No, it rubbed me the wrong way. ApologiesI guess my sense of humor doesnt travel well.. deleted![]()
Thanks, AM. Yes, I eventually spotted it—initially, I was just scrolling through the menus. I think the main issue was that I assumed I could delete the original post, and only realised I couldn’t after reposting the second one. That said, I’ve always found certain aspects of the site a bit quirky, and in my view, they haven’t really improved over the years. Thanks for explaining. Sometimes forum tools are a bit of a blunt instrument, hence this situation. You can always reach out to one of the team (Lindsay, Sirch, Garry or myself) for help with this kind of thing if you need it. There's also the 'contact us' link at the bottom-right of every page and a Site Help And Support section at the very bottom of the list of different sections to the forum. Finally there's the possibility of reporting your own duplicate post and asking for help that way (see the report button, bottom left, below every individual post in a thread).

or, indeed, thread merges - for example if both threads had gained a reply or more, we'd have made the same "value judgements" as Garry detailed above, then merged the two threads to the one "in the correct area" - manually removing one of the "opening posts".Admins and mods do our best to keep the site tidy and functional, and that sometimes involves deletions.
