deleting duplicate files on a Mac

Does anybody know an easy way to search through my hard drive and delete duplicate files on a mac?

Hmmmm.... I'd say do a New Smart Folder and look for all files of say a certain type, then if you spot a duplicate - delete it...!

That could take a while, I seem to have loads of duplicate MP3 files, but there are 6800 of them. Is there a free app which does the trick?

Are you aware that iTunes itself can help you in this regard...? There's a 'Show Duplicates' menu selection that will do as it says on the tin.

View > Show Dulicates

Have you tried that...?

I wasn't aware, thanks for that. Having said that, it's a pretty long list! I thought the consolidate option would duplicates but it doesn't...

Sure, it can be a pretty long list, but you can then use the sort option together with ctrl-click to multi-select and multi delete files.
