Hi guys
I'm selling one of my cameras and have said I would provide a few sdhc cards are a small bonus.
I'd like to wipe these cards first and have found an old computer coverdisc with some software on it called O&O Erase. It seems to use quite a few destuction methods from simple overwriting to more complex overwriting. I'm wondering if it's safe to use this type of software without damaging the card?

Cheers

Yes
O&O are a well established data manipulation company now called laplink. Their software is usually very good.

Why not just format the cards in camera?

That doesn't wipe them.... It just configures the card as empty. You need something that physically overwrites the data (overwriting once will be fine).

Yeah, that sounds secure to me. Just don't do a military wipe (the process of writing 1s and 0s or random data and repeating the process several times).

Alternatively, if you don't have any secure wipe software, you could consider formatting the card, fill it up entirely with random images or data, delete the data and repeat filling it up again with random data and then format. That should be safe enough to prevent the average user from trying to recover the original data.

Last time I wiped cards, I overwrote the card with loads of raw shots of a carpet. I wish I'd saved the resulting folder to make the job faster the next time!

For some cards, SanDisk's rescue pro software's delete routine worked fine but for the others I used the raw snaps method.
