Deleted DNG files before export

Hi,

I had edited some photos and had accidentally deleted the DNG files afterwards. I noticed when I exported it it said the files were missing and it had tried to use the information in cache.

So questions:

1) Will the export be ok?

2) Is there a way of re-generating the DNG files? Do I need to?

3) Can I just re-import the raw photos and it will re-generate the DNG files and realised these are the files adited, or will the editing and tagging be lost?

Thanks

Generally speaking, we haven't a clue since you haven't even told us what app(s) you're using.

1) Can't you inspect the exported files and tell? Are their file sizes what you'd expect? How do they look on screen?

2) Doubt it.

3) Give it a try!

Hi,

You're right, I neglected to mention I use Lightroom (standalone version 6.0)

I played around a bit and fixed it by:

1) Select all the raw photos for import (again)
2) Tick (if not already ticked) "Do not import suspected duplicates"
3) The dimmed thumbnails are the ones you want to import as those are the ones you imported last time
4) Un-tick all
5) Un-tick "Do not import suspected duplicates"
6) Tick the ones that were dimmed down
7) Un-tick "Add to collection"
8) Import

That re-generated the DNGs without adding to the collection.

I then generated a new web-catalogue from the collection and watched the file sizes as it built the files and the were all 30-40% bigger, so it definitely made a difference.

Thanks

No. Analogy speaking, that would be like trying to make an album (export) with the sounds adjusted (the edits) without the Master Tape (the DNGs).

You need to check your Recycling Bin and resort the DNG files (assuming you use Windows and assuming you did not empty the Recycling Bin).

Like droj says "Give it a try!"

Addition: You would need to make sure you import your raw photos in the same way as before, meaning same filenames, in the same folder, like when you imported them the first time. If you imported them with wrong filenames, then your edits won't work because they would be linked to a specific filename.
