Deepwater Horizon oil spill pictures

Am I right in thinking that BP were using a Yank contractor that was cost cutting or was that hearsay?

Tis what I heard also... Lots of the sub-contractors that have dropped the ball on this were US... BP is just at the top of the ladder...

So back to the photos...
Is it just me or has the fish in image #9 been planted there for the photo? It's a bit clean?

I thought it was just a pilchard with the sauce photoshopped darker...

Obama is passing the buck and can't stop calling the company British Petroleum, The equipment is leased to BP by American companies isn't it?

That's what I've been given to understand: Rigs, support vessels, drilling kit, safety kit all the sub-contractors' kit blah blah blah...

BP is a slow-moving unarmed target and the Yanks love those...

I wonder how many people in this photo took a car, plane of train to get to the protest? I love it, everyone has a love affair with the internal combustion engine, and if it wasn't for out MASSIVE demand of the black stuff, a disaster like this wouldn't have happened...yet as soon as the product we love starts going wrong, we all turn against it.

Food for though ;)

not only that - the field itself is leased byu the yanks to BP(a 60% share) and two other american companies at 20% each.

Unfortunately, there are non so deaf as those that do not want to hear. I also detect a lack of education regarding the actual facts, but isnt that the american way?

Yeah, right on there Comrade! Luckily the BLzeeBUS is powered by twin thermonuclear power plants - zero CO2 emmissions from us (and nothing could possibly go wrong) as we trundle down the highways on our way to environmentally sound motor racing circuits to photograph the basket weaving and face painting.... *ahem* :D

Personally that's all the American's are good at "The Blame Game"

Transocean (Swiss company) operated the rig and upto 2007 they had a very good safety record, then they merged with GlobalSantaFe Corporation (a US company) and things started going down hill.

BP Exploration leased the Deepwater Horizon from Transocean in 2008.

Also understand that these drill companies are pushing the boundaries when it come to deep water drill, resulting in greater and great depths, and perhaps have push the boundaries too far regarding the technology to support equipment at such depths.

As desantnik said, if the American's weren't so reliant on oil, perhaps the cost/profit/risk of companies like BP pushing the boundaries too far too quickly, they might have been more measured in their approach and perhaps something like this may not have happened.

But who ever was responsible (not only BP), 11 people died, an eco system is being effected and OB isn't helping matters by making his campaign stance (perhaps for re-election)........ When solutions are required

Sorry to dredge a really old thread but just seen that theyre doing a seconds from disaster program on national geographic channel about the Bhopal incident. On Monday at 9pm, thought people might like to know..

Thanks for the heads up! .... Not sure what Bhopal had to do with oil spillage though?
