Hi there.

As most of you know by now, I'm a D50 user.

Contemplating getting a dedicated macro lens (1:1 type affair).

Just wondering what people would recommend - prefer to have something that is not gonna break the bank!!!

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers.

Yes, the Sigma 105mm.

Cheers.

Seen that one - looks nice. Retails for about £200 in USA (off there in a few weeks).

Anyone know of anywhere cheaper?

Also, anyone got any test shots or comments?

Cheers.

105mm is about £255 from cameras2u

150mm is about £379 from tecno

I am tempted by the 105mm.

Off to America in a few weeks time and Calumet have it there for £200. May make a little investment as the reviews are outstanding.

Cheers Joe!

I'm buying one based on those shots alone!!!

Even if it never goes on my camera, I'll use it to shave as it seems super sharp!!!

Tamron 90 is supposed to be very good and its not too expensive.

You might also look at used AIS/AI Nikons if you're keen on bargains, given you'll presumably be using manual focus if it's a dedicated macro lens. Only problem is they're 1:2 rather than 1:1. The 200 is excellent and you can find one in good condition for about the price of a new third party macro lens.

Best value for money, rather than outright bargain, has to be the incredibly versatile 105 VR micro though, simply because of all the other things it can do besides being an outstanding macro lens.

Cheers for the advice !!!

As usual, I am planning on doing my shopping in the states whilst over there in a few weeks time - everything mega cheap compared to Britain!!!

Looked at Calumet who have the Sigma 105 cheaper than the Tamron 90. The Nikon VR is out of my budget I'm afraid!!

As for the other / older lenses - will continue to look, but I am liking the sound of a bright shiny new Sigma lens - as the reviews of it are very good ;-)
